They hit us!

Today we went to visit Georgette to start her up, run the generator a bit and take down a couple things for storage. Imagine our dismay to see footprints in the snow around her. Then we started her up and it was so loud. He shut her down and climbed under and it was gone! They stole the darn catalytic converter!! What’s the point of a locked storage yard with high fences, three rows of barbed wire and cameras all around? Now to deal with the insurance and police. I hope they catch the thieves!

Smack but don't steal from me or lie to me. So sorry you are having to deal with this hassle and I hope they find the useless thief.

I would hope they have cameras. I was talking to one of our storage neighbors about that exact thing the other day. He said to pull out the storage agreement and check that we would be covered. We are. About the only thing we would be liable for is if we didn't get the unit into its space correctly and were to be hit.
Man, you have to feel violated....

"I hope they catch the thieves! "

Me too. Our son in law just had one taken off of his car. Our TV sits pretty high and would be easy to steal. It sits outside.

I don't know what to say anymore...

Thieves are also getting dangerous.

A SeattlevTV station just aired a security cam video of a cat converter theft in progress at a Bellevue, WA residence. While one was under the Prius removing the cat, the other stood with a semi-auto pistol pointed at the door. Fortunately the resident's did not go outside.

Video is on MYNW.COM. I'm currently in the middle of the Mojave Desert (Hole in the wall campground) and can't bring up the link to post video.

The saddest thing is that even if they are caught, the punishment will be light.

If the storage yard is a big corporate chain, they probably won't give you video. You'll have to file a police report and the police can request the video, if they want it. If they do want the video, the local facility only has the last 30 days. A request for video older than that has to go to corporate.

The problem is being discussed at the Washington state legislature this year. I hope they make it hard on the thieves.

My friend just had his stolen today and my wife's coworker had his stolen last week. It's an epidemic, between the high prices scrap yards are paying and how easy it is now with battery powered sawzalls and angle grinders it's just easy money for crooks. And the best part is that the amount of damage tends to be right around the level of a typical deductible so it's all coming out your pocket.

Oh Lisa.. I am so sorry.. Thieves and people who harm kids are the low life of society. It makes me so angry. You work so hard for what you have and then thieves come and take what is yours. I so hope they get them and they get what is coming to them.

Sorry for your loss but there's not a chance the thief(s) will be caught. With rampant crime this will have low or no urgency to solve. File the police report but don't expect anything to happen. With so much crime against people crimes against property get little attention.

to make it worse, all the local media has adds "top dollar paid for catalytic converters". I have even seen it on Facebook market place.

Yeah...Google "top dollar paid for catalytic converters". This is really getting out of hand.

Maybe they need serial numbers, with sale without a serial number being illegal.

Edit: maybe even possession without a serial number being illegal?

Thanks Kevin. Yes, I completely agree. There were two of them hit in our storage lot. The older ones didn't have CCs. They have been hitting them in this area evidently pretty hard. A local daycare had two vans hit and they were sitting in a church parking lot.
