Unhappy Trouble replacing water filter on Georgetown

Hi,
We purchased a new water filter from PUR. Phone 330-547-4423. We just tried to replace the water filter and now water leaks out of the canister when we turn the public water back on. We can't figure out why. We even tried putting the old filter back in the canister, same problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? We are new full-timers. We have the correct filter.
Thank you,
Sue & Len

I'm thinking like changing the oil filter on your car:

If you have one gasket, your fine. But if you have no gasket, or two gaskets, it will leak. Is there a gasket and what shape is it in? And is there only one?

My guess...anyway. And welcome to FRF!

Trouble replacing water filter

Thanks for the suggestion, Radio. We thought the same thing. The Georgetown did not come with a gasket for the water filter canister. It's worked fine for 3 months. No leaks. Does anybody else have a Georgetown and is there a gasket for your water filter canister? Thanks!

Those filters have an o-ring in the housing. sometimes they get nicked or come out of the groove and get pinched. There also could be a bit of debris preventing it from sealing. Take the housing apart and inspect the o-ring and groove and clean and replace if needed. I use a small amount of cooking oil on the tip of my finger to lube the o-ring before I put the canister back together.

Thank you Bama Rambler. We called PUR and they said we should have an O-ring. There wasn't one before, but we have ordered it. Hopefully, this will fix our problem.
