XL owners - slides
We are in Goshen at the rally. We were able to get our large slide fixed - it needed a new motor. We've only had it a year and probably put that slide out a total of 40 times so beware when your slide quits working with a clunk one day. We heard anecdotally from another FR owner there was a big bunch of bad motors that needed to be replaced. The other thing we noticed was that the slide topper brackets on the rear bed slide had lost most of the screws and were just barely hanging on. They replaced them at the plant with much larger screws and also put a steel plate under both rollers to cover the lovely cracks. So walk around and keep looking at everything!
The safety window recall was a sham. What they did was replace one of my living room windows with a safety window that looks different than the other window in the same slide. They drove our RV to the main plant to have this done - had I known I would have said no way. There was no communication on this - I even mentioned that the current window worked fine and I didn't know why it needed to be replaced with a recall - no mention at all it would be a differnet window. First of all, you can always use the front windows to get out if needed, secondly, it looks janky with two different types of windows side by side. The also gouged my leather couch during the replacement so not happy at all with the whole thing.
So that's the update for all you XL owners!
We start the rally this afternoon - should be interesting. There are repair tags on just about every rig so the poor service techs are going to be kept very busy. I feel sorry for them.
