Angry 10 Ontario parks loose camping

I can’t believe it; the Ontario government is stopping overnight camping in 10 northern Ontario parks. It's bad enough to get a spot in the summer now it will be imposable. They can spend $100 million to move an electric generating plant so they can win 2 seats in the last election but don’t have a couple million to keep the parks open.

They probably can't afford the hydro bills, they've driven the price so high, like shooting you're self in the foot.

I think it's closer to $200M..., or $100M per seat.

Which Ontario parks are on the chopping block and where did you find the information? Without the revenue from camping how are they expecting to maintain the remaining facilities in these parks? Or will we see our parks sold off. What a shame.

If they can't afford to run the campgrounds maybe they should just privatize them. At least the sites would still be available and they'd be generating revenue.

I've stayed at Obatanga -that's a really beautiful spot.

Many years ago the closed the Brown's Bay campground but left the swimming and picnic area open. The campground has gone back to nature. The park at Johnstown was closed but it was reopened by a private individual under Provincial park guide lines. They were not allowed to purchase the property but were given a long term lease.
