Short drive into northwest Calgary and you can train right down to the Stampede grounds. Not a lot of parking at the stations though.

May already be booked up for Stampede. You'll have to check.
Already booked back in three weeks

Skocan,
Note that the parking lots for the trains fill up. Those are the parking lots that I use, so I know their pattern.
One good strategy for the train (LRT) parking lots is to arrive shortly after 10 am and use the premium parking spaces for which people pay $100/month to be guaranteed a parking spot until 10 am. In normal times, those spots tend to fill by noon, and start to free up again after lunch. Of course, the Stampede is not normal times, so it might not open up after lunch. But, the 10 am trick should work, if you come in really soon after 10 am.
An earlier poster claimed that Callaway park is close the the highway and hence noisy. The amusement park is between the campground and road, so there is no road noise that I recall from visiting my colleague's father. I also think there is a good view of the mountains from Callaway park which you won't get from Bow River's edge because it is down in the river valley. I'm a little hazy on my recollection of the mountain view because it would pale in comparison to the mountain view from my own home. But, I do recall at least seeing a nice view of farms and the foothills from Callaway.
Both parks are likely to fill at Stampede time.

Thanks all for your ideas around Calgary.
I just found out that my group will be staying east of town at Mountain View Farm Camping. Outside town and should be quiet in the evening. They have a bus service to and from the Stampede but its leaves in the morning and comes back late.

Well all,
Tomorrow is the day we head out for our 2 month journey to Alberta Canada. My motorhome has been checked out top to bottom and if all goes well we won't have any surprises on our trip.
Hope to see some of you soon in Calgary Stampede. We will be staying east of town at Mt View campground.

Iggy, welcome to Alberta and Calgary in particular. I have never stayed at that CG but it looks fairly convenient for the Trans Canada Highway as well as the Calgary ring road (Hwy 201 - Stoney Trail) if you're heading in to the mountains for a few days.
Within about five minutes of your location is the new Costco which has diesel and gas at the lowest price in the area.
Drumheller, west of Calgary, is a neat place and has the Royal Tyrrell Dinosaur museum. I haven't been for quite a few years but it was excellent the last time I went.
I hope you and your travelling companions have a really great time visiting Stampede as well as other locations and attractions in Calgary.
Safe travels

Thank you both for your suggestions and especially the new Costco on the east side for fuel. I already have it in my GPS.
Will keep you posted as we get closer at the end of the month.

If you drive the Icefields parkway and have a Garmin rv gps you have to put it in car mode or it will get upset. [emoji3]
Have a safe trip, practice your Yahoo!'s.

Well the 2017 Alberta RV trip is over and back in Arizona.
It was a wonderful trip with 21 other RV rigs and friends.
We loved the Northern Rockies and Columbia Glacier.
We really loved Waterton, Jasper, Calgary and the great people of Alberta.
Have lots of great pictures for our memory book that one of the guys did at the end.

Great photos Iggy. Looks like you had a very enjoyable time and saw some great parts of our province. Hopefully, you'll come back and see some more in the not too distant future.
