Help with Labrador road travel!!
We are taking a long road trip from the states into New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, ferry to Newfoundland, then the short one from St Barbe to Blanc Sablon. The main problem we are facing, is finding places to stay once on the mainland in Blanc Sablon heading towards Quebec City. Is that a feasible route to take along "138", or are we fantasizing?

I would do a lot of research on that road past Blanc Sablon. Last I heard it was a rough, gravel road almost all the past Red Bank.

Thanks for the heads up, we were afraid of that. We will just take the ferry back.

Does a minor grandchild require a U.S. passport to visit Canada if traveling with parent / guardian? Is birth certificate or U.S. state issued ID acceptable?

I think they might need a permission slip if the other parent is not present.

As per the CBSA site:
Quote:
Identification requirements for U. S. citizens and permanent residents
If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, you must carry proof of citizenship such as a passport, birth certificate, a certificate of citizenship or naturalization, a U.S. Permanent Resident Card, or a Certificate of Indian Status along with photo identification. If you are a U.S. permanent resident, ensure you carry proof of your status such as a U.S. Permanent Resident Card.

So, technically any US citizen can visit Canada using just a birth certificate. However, to return to the US, you need to abide by the CBP's site:
Quote:
What types of documents are accepted for entry into the United States via land and sea?
- U.S. citizens can present a valid: U.S. Passport; Passport Card; Enhanced Driver’s License; Trusted Traveler Program card (NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST); U.S. Military identification card when traveling on official orders; U.S. Merchant Mariner document when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business; or Form I-872 American Indian Card, or (when available) Enhanced Tribal Card.
- U.S. and Canadian citizen children under the age of 16 (or under 19, if traveling with a school, religious group, or other youth group) need only present a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship. The birth certificate can be original, photocopy, or certified copy.
