Ideas for PEI and Nova Scotia

Hi. This year we are headed to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. We'd like to stop for scenic hikes, visit small communities, see historical sites, sample some great small town restaurants and just relax on the trip north. We plan to go for a couple of weeks in July. I'm looking for any suggested routes, sights of interest, boondocking locations, restaurants and trails that need to be hiked!

Post anything and everything since I love reading about everyone's experiences.

Thanks and enjoy your summer!

Too many things…..not enough time!
For PEI…..
Check our Cavendish area on North shore.
Check out Charlottetown if you’re into history.

Nova Scotia…..where do I start?
You need to travel the Cabot Trail…..in a car, not with your RV.
Lots of campgrounds to use for a base camp and do day trips.
Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg, Annapolis Valley.
Whale Watching adventure spots on the Bay Of Fundy side.

Enjoy. We’re going August and September. Can’t wait.

If I could only choose one thing to do in Nova Scotia it would be the Cabot Trail. If you’re into hiking you’re in for a treat since there are lot of trail heads just off the highway. Our favorite was Skyline which puts you on top of a huge grass meadow bluff 100s of feet up from the ocean. If you go closer to dusk there’s a good chance you’ll see moose.

This was our schedule from 2017.

We were coming out of SW Michigan. But I cut all the details related to that part of the trip out of the itinerary. Our friends from California joined us.

We drove into PEI on the west. But then took the ferry out. It cut a lot of doubling back out of the trip, and quite a few miles.

Thanks for the feedback! We don't have a toad so can we drive the Cabot Trail with a 24' class C?

Also, any boondocking in NS as we head toward PE?

Thanks again!

We drove the Cabot in a Sprinter based Class C. No Problem.

Yup. A 24 footer will be no problem, however, you’ll want to use your gear selector diligently to save on your brake wear. There’s a number of long downward sections where you’ll smell brake pads from others that don’t use engine braking!

You will find parking space at lookouts for your rig, but be selective so you’re not blocked in by others that come in after you.

As far as Boondocking, there’s Casinos in New Brunswick at Moncton and Edmunston, but we use Boondockers Welcome throughout Nova Scotia.

Enjoy.
