Hi all... thinking about summer and where to go... for the last couple of years we have headed to Banff for most of a week and have had a great time. This summer I was thinking about Jasper AB as I haven't been there since I was a kid.

I am thinking Whistler campground is the place to stay as I'm looking for full service sites and the 5th is over 30' ... it appears they have pull through sites. Mind you it appears they have under 80 sites that are full service, so hoping to get a reservation.

Any comments on Jasper... Whistler campground would be appreciated!

Our family loves to go to Jasper, we usually hit it for at least 4-5 days every year. The Whistler campsite is great, however if you like to have a campfire, they do not have full service with a fire. They do however have Electrical with a fire.

There is a campsite across the road that has full hookups as well called Wapiti, their full hookups are in a parking lot. Not exactly the camping experience.


If you are up for a good hike, the Old fort point is a nice hard walk (lots of elevation in short distance, but if you are in good shape it is doable) and takes about 2 hours. It has a fantastic view of the town with mountains behind. I will see if I can post a picture of it in the next few days.

There is also Lake Edith Cavell, which is close to the Marmot ski area, which has a great walk to a glacier lake, which if you are lucky like I was 2 years ago you can see a large piece of glacier fall off into the lake. It was breathtaking.

Anyway if I think of anything else I will post it.

Hey Kev... Thanks for the pics! Is Whistler usually packed? - do you have a tough time finding sites or do you reserve online?

I would definately make a reservation, especially if you want power or full hookups. During the summer if you want to add a day to your stay, you are usually s.o.l.

If you stay further out of town, where there are no hookups, but a 1/2hr drive down hwy 93 there is a campground called Wabasso that is not usually packed and you may possibly get in if you are just flying by the seat of your pants to see what you get.

Jasper is our favorite National Park to visit. We have tented there many times with our kids and now we visit there with our trailer. The wildlife is abundant and the scenery is breathtaking. We stayed there this past Sept 30 and Oct 1. We stayed in the Whistlers campsite. It cost $20 per day to be in the park and $37.50 per night for a full hookup site. A couple of great day hikes are Opal Hills and the Bald Hills near Maligne lake.

Are the Bald Hills and Opal Hills suitable for kids aged 6&9? We have done the other hikes many times and need to find something new to try. But we dont want to do any that are tooo long.
