Thank you, that was wonderful. Now if I had a Canadian friend who would plan an RV trip for me I would go this summer.

I go to the rockies every summer.
Meet me at the border this August and follow along.

Itinerary:
-fuel up.
-wander into the oncoming lane while gawking at the scenery.
-find a beautiful spot to camp (pretty much anywhere).
-light a fire and drink a lot of beer.
-say "was that a grizzly!?" every time a chipmunk makes a noise.
-go to sleep.

-rinse and repeat.

Now if I only had a Texan friend who would show me the Alamo...

It is great scenery. Have driven through the Rockies the last two years. If you take the trip remember to breath. The views are so breath taking. We travel during the fall and spring when most CG are closed. If you go during the camping season there are no shortage of CG, both private an public (provincial and federal).

Yukon Don- I'm driving to Alaska in mid-July. I think I'll post your Itinerary in my TT and follow it daily! Thanks.

Going by way of Glacier NP and up thru Banff, Dawson Creek and the Al Can to Skagway. If I can get myself in shape, I plan on hiking the Chilkoot Trail out of Skagway. Then Whitehorse to Dawson and then into Alaska. Should give me plenty of "gawking" time.

What route do you take?

You're in for a great trip, Gus.

One thing you might consider, either going up or coming back, is to take highway 37 through northern BC. It runs south from the AlCan just west of Watson Lake and goes down to the Yellowhead (Hwy 16). More spectacular scenery and I find it a bit of an easier drive than the AlCan stretch between Dawson Creek and Watson Lake.
That stretch of AlCan does offer up some incredible landscapes but it's not what you would call a relaxing drive...

Dawson City is my absolute favourite place in the whole world. Be sure to catch the show at Diamond Tooth Gertie's Saloon.

I've never done the Chilkoot -should be fun if it doesn't kill you.

Nothing like boondocking in the rockies that I have found so far.

Yukon Don: you now have one, come on down, the Alamo will be easy.
Must be late fall thru early spring as you would not like it here any time near the summer.

Hah -that's what "Santy Anny" said.
I suspect you're right about the summer temps though. I've been living too long in the icebox to be tolerating southern summers.

Someday, I would really love to visit the Alamo -as well as the Custer battlefield, Fort Phil Kearny, Beecher's Island, etc, etc. Someday...

Seriously though, if you want to come camp among grizzly bears instead of gila monsters (or whatever it is all y'all have down there) I'm always up (work permitting) for playing guide.

Y Don- I'm going to save your road suggestion post. That sounds like really good advice from someone who is familiar with the roads. I appreciate knowing of the alternative. Thank you.
