Trailer insurance

Hi, can you recommend a good and well priced trailer insurance? (for 2019 Coachmen Apex Nano) I am in Ontario. So far the quotes ranged between $336 (but with high car insurance) to $599 by an RV-only insurance (Aviva). All the posts I found regarding insurance are from 10 years ago, so I am hoping for current information. Has anyone used RecProtect?https://recprotect.ca

Are you certain Progressive insurance policies can even be bought in Canada? I searched, and the two web sites I found that mentioned it said Progressive wasn’t available there.

I found this on line:
“State Farm no longer operates in Canada. State Farm conducted business in Canada for decades and provided coverage in Alberta, Ontario, and New Brunswick. In 2015, its Canadian book of business was purchased by the Desjardins Group, making the State Farm brand officially defunct in Canada.”

And this:
“State Farm is an international insurance carrier that sold its Canadian operations to Desjardins Financial Security Life Assurance Company. Desjardins initially maintained the State Farm Canada name until they rebranded in 2017, and did away with the State Farm name.”

So if this is true, State Farm wouldn’t do much good for the OP.

I am paying $316 per year with State Farm. But of course the Devil is in the details. I also bundle all my insurances with State Farm.

So, the question for all is what are you getting for your premium?

Too bad for the OP, as his or her thread went off the rails at post #2. The subject was supposed to be travel trailer insurance choices available in Ontario, Canada.

kenandterry, can you help out here?

I got tired of searching out quotes over the years. Our motorhomes have been insured with Wayfarer RVInsurance whose underwriter is Avila. Insurance is no bargain anywhere, and I’ve never made a claim. Your quote of even $599 is better than my motorhome insurance, but i guess it’s because I have an entire vehicle under my RV.

StateFarm is now Desjardins as was previously mentioned.

Good luck.

Try Intact. Aviva (wayfarer) wont insure you if the unit is out of ONTARIO for more than 6 months, which is absurd.

I used their site to prepare a quote. My 2017 Venture Sonic 168VRB valued at $20k, $500 deductible was $217 Cdn. I called and their admin fee is $10.50. With tax@13% it was $70 cheaper than Dejardins (same coverage). Still on the fence whether I switch for $70.

I'll have to check but I believe I'm with Aviva.

35' Rockwood Sig. 8310SS, my replacement value of $25K. My premium is $355/year.

(I'm upping it to $35K on the renewal later in July).

I have been told there are only two RV insurers in Ontario.

You have been around the Forum for a while and should know that any thread in this type of forum is hit or miss-no big deal, really?

No help for Canucks but USAA is $30.50/year for my Roo trailer in Virginia (states regulate insurance in the US). This is merely a trailer, not a self propelled vehicle.
