-Trip Accross Eastern Canada

We are planning a trip from Sault Ste. Marie thru Ontario to Montreal and then re-enter the US south of there in NY. Are there any issues that I need to be aware of? RV parks, good roads, low over passes or bridges etc. My fiver is just under 13' 6". Summer or very early Fall. Thank you

Sounds like you will be traveling mostly in Southern Ontario guessing rt 401, if so big trucks run it constant and you shouldn't have any problems on it. Going through Toronto area on 401 is very busy but as long as your confident in your skills you will be alright. Most of the 401 is 4 lane but outside Toronto it gets to 6 and sometimes more. If you cross into NY south of Montreal and are heading back west from there you will probably be on rt 11 , 2 lane only,until you get to my area in Watertown ny and I think you should be safe on rt 11 all the way. From then on it depends which way you want to go back but most of the roads have underpasses over 14 ' and are marked good if they aren't. Have a good trip try to spend a few days along the St. Lawrence beautiful views and things to do. Stop off and ck out Boldt and Singer Castles both have tour boats to take you to them.

You say you're travelling across Eastern canada, yet you're missing 1/2 of the provinces.. all east of your destination.

WHJ773 Be ready for at least double the fuel prices you have in Texas, and for VERY!! rough roads in Quebec.

Diesel prices aren't that bad right now, at least in Alberta, Saskatchewan, & Manitoba. I paid about $4.80/gal Canadian on average on the trip I just finished yesterday. Traveling further east, my recommendation is to learn French!

Can teach a few swear words in french, as to the roads never had a problem on the 401 which changes to the #2 in Quebec and it will take you right to Montreal, now the road from there down to Rouses Point ny that is a different story couldn't tell what there like. Best remember they don't like English speaking people but they love your money. Learn north, south, east and west in french is nord, sud, est, ouest .

Are you planning to venture into Montreal or go around it with the 5er?

You say that you are going for the Sault to Montreal. Are you planning to go through Toronto or take highway 17 to Ottawa? Then go from Ottawa to Montreal. You will be OK on both routes. Highway 17 is also know as the trans Canada highway. You have not stated if you are planning to go to the Atlantic provinces or head back to Texas.

Sorry, this trip I will go about half way down into NY state and spend a week. Not until the summer of 15 will I go to the Atlantic Provinces for the full summer. Thank you all for your replies.

They probably won't be on the 401 coming from the Soo, unless it's just for the stretch from Toronto to the Quebec border. The 401 runs from down here @ Windsor up to Toronto and onwards. More likely they'll be on the Trans-Can the majority of the way.

I don't know of any overpass restrictions on the Trans-Can, but I haven't run on it yet with my trailer, and my trailer is only 11' tall. You shouldn't have any issues with it though as it's designed for big rigs the whole way. Your bigger concern's going to be wildlife. Lots of opportunities to hit a deer, moose, bear, etc... when you're up in that neck of the woods.

Another thing. Fill up right before you cross from Michigan. Fuel prices here (for gas at least) work out to at least $1.00/Gallon more than what you'll see in Michigan. For instance, the current average in ontario as I type this was reported as 1.314/litre (4.57/gallon at the current exchange rate of 1.09.) On Saturday the gas prices in Michigan I saw were around 3.49/gallon.
