Anyone towing with Lexington?

I towed my 2002 Sonoma crew can for the first time today. Was toad for previous class A. Pleasantly surprised how well it handled
Any other experiences? Any mods to improve handel ing?

My parents had a 28' Lexington, they bought it to replace their 37' Jayco 5er, and hoped to use it to take the boats to local lakes and rivers that they camped along. They only used the Lexington to tow probably 2 times, once for a 19' Crestliner fishing boat and the other a 21' pontoon boat. My mom liked the size of the Lex, which is the main reason they sold their Jayco, they are no longer "snow birds" and the Jayco was too big for weekend camping or so she said. My dad could not stand driving it (lack of power) and hated towing with it along with the mileage it got. He was to use to the power and mileage of his F350 diesel compaired to the V10. So after only owning it for about 3 months they traded the Lex for a 31' Open Range 5er.

I have towed a 2003 Dodge Dakota thousands of miles. Up & down mountain passes. I would rather not be towing but .......
The key here is the Ford E450 chassis ( which I assume you have) & the weight they are rated to tow. Before 2003 it was 3500 lbs but that was increased to 5000 lbs in 2003. A better transmission in 2008?

Thank you. I have the 450 chassis with a Ford V 10. Very pleased with ride and handling. Curious if any suspension mods done.

I'm towing ford escape (3500 lbs) across us (7months) and would love more power in western mountains other wise in flat east and Midwest plenty of power. However its a struggle keeping straight track with slightest wind on side of coach. The towed vehicle has strong influence on ability to keep rig straight.

I have same feelings and wondered if large sway bar might make a difference. Possibly steering stabilizer.

I had a road master steering stabilizer installed on my 2006 lex 283gts. 100% improvement in steering. Also, had belstein shocks installed. Dave ps I'm towing a 2007 jeep liberty with no problems

MotocrossCamper tows very heavy. He is a very active poster. Suggest you contact him. Sunseeker/Lexington E450 should be same engine, transmission, frame, etc. Based on E450/Dual-Rear-Wheel specification, your towing capacity should be about 7,500lbs. And I've seen posts that indicate the hitch is indeed a 7,500lb hitch labeled as 5,000lb hitch. But Brian C is the expert here.

I have a 2014 283GTS and tow a Suzuki Grand Vitara, I can sure tell it's back there esp at the pump

I bought a new Terrain by GMC. Had it rigged to flat tow. Works wonderful and only lose about a mile + per gal. But I do 60 when towing.
Scan gauge said 7.8 last time.

I have traveled 9 k and found front tires on towed vehicle wear twice as much as rear tires. Excessive wear. I'm curious if that's standard problem for others.

I don't think it is standard.I have friend who towed a Honda crv who had that problem but, I have towed several diff. cars and never had a problem.

I've towed three different vehicle when no adverse wear except the time I did not unlock the steering.

Last year we were towing a 2 dr Wrangler with a 2011 Lexi 265./ Towed well with no problems. This year we are towing a 2012 Jeep liberty with a 2014 Lexi 300. Again no problems but the liberty is over 1000# heavier than the wrangler so I do feel it more. Penalty is approx. 1 Mpg.

We tow a 2013 Edge with a 2011 283. Just had airbags installed on coach, and immediately felt a difference. When we resume travel next year, may consider a steering stabilizer of some sort, but right now, the airbags helped with rockin' and rollin'. Also installed a Toad Charger on Edge. Mileage equal to what others have shared, but we need a vehicle of some size for side travel, so expected the gas sacrifice.
