Slide outs, generator and steps don't work

2004 255 GTS, last trip I took I noticed the slide-outs and steps were moving slower than usual. Then stopped working, worked one more time and now they don't work at all. No 12VDC to the steps or slide-out motors. (I haven't checked the voltage to the generator, but I'm sure it's not there, either.) Everything else works fine; vent fans, lights, etc. Inside the battery compartment I checked connections on two solid-state relays, one mounted on either side of two large, cylinder-shaped components. On the left side of all components I get 11VDC, on the right side I get 13.8VDC (shore power connected). Since this was a slow-death sort of problem I'm pretty sure it's not a SSR. (All fuses and breakers on the power supply under the bed are OK.) Any thoughts?

OK, it seems I'm referring to the "BIRD". (Searching helps, doesn't it?) I still ASSume my problem is a common relay/connection for the heavier motors.

It look like your problem is due to weak house batteries.

Disconnect them to check the voltage, if low, charge them with an outside battery charger.

Slides ans steps are, usually, protected by fuses or breakers that are near the batteries box.

Hope this helps !

That seems to be the problem. Funny thing is, about five minutes after I started charging them, the charging solenoid engaged and started charging them from the onboard charger. The batteries ran down again, so I turned the charger back on and the same thing happened. Been working ever since. Think the BIRD is on it's way out.

If your BIRD is on his way out, he might go South. Most of them are flying that way at fall.
