Smart Plug where???

I want to install a Smart Plug to replace the rat hole cord that I have. I asked Forest River for the tech details of my 2008 Lexington GTS 283 and they sent me some but nothing on the wall panels in the back.

I don’t want to drill through any important structures or wiring in the walls. Do any of you happen to know where a safe place is to install that plug close to where the rat hole is?

You probably need to be in the Lexington forum for model specific help may be available.
If there is any room around that hole, you might consider getting an endoscope to look around the area. Of course, that won't help if it's insulated around there.

We used the marineco plug. here is where we put it no problems
If you notice the hinge on the cap that's not standard. the cap will go high and we hooked it with the slide. Hence the remade hinge. however still locks tight and does what we wanted and most important no more rat hole that cabinet is electrical storage now. Smart Plug cap locks on your cord so you should not have to worry about the slide. There is plenty of room if you want to mount lower as well to make sure everything clears

MaPaChoo, you truly rock. Thanks so much for the pics. I was looking at that location but wanted to make sure I did not hit anything important.

Thanks again for the reply.

Not a problem. We ran screws all the way through with nuts on the inside. Getting those buggers to line up with the backing plate was the hardest part of the project

Looks great. Good to see the ACTUAL SMART PLUG. Been using one for 5 years. Best solid connection and you do not have to struggle to make sure it is secure. Wish the manufacturers would use them.

The manufacturer Forest River does use them as I had one on my Rockwood trailer. But why they are not used on the motorhomes I don't know why. Why not just install the new plug on the access door or just above the door and you can still use the space for storage.

I'll never say never but I have yet to see a R/V come from the FR factory with an actual Smart Plug electrical connection.

Maybe it was a dealer installed upgrade? I do believe that some of the Grand Design 5th wheels come with them installed....

I could have put it in the door butt then I would have had a stiff pigtail making the connection to the transfer switch and a bit leads capacity in the storage space. The new location totally frees up the storage, is waterproof, rodent proof and much easier to connect. Plus it aligns with the gas filler and water inlet do it looks like it is factory.
