What's that bracket for?
I was performing a wash/wax clean-up job today on our 283ts Lex. The exhaust pipe exits aft of the entry door and while I was cleaning the chrome tip on the pipe I was trying to figure out the use for the funny bracket attached to the exhaust heat shield.
I get that the heat shield protects the external storage compartment directly on top of the exhaust pipe but the attached bracket is a mystery.
Does anyone have a clue as to what it's for? See the attached image.

I'm the third owner of the coach so I can't be 100% sure but it seems like it's part of the original heat shield install.

One of the previous owners is having a giggle with the next owner(s).
Never seen an attachment like this on any other Class C units.

Looks to be a hardware store bracket. I'll bet if you go to your nearest ACE you will find it although it appears to have been cut off on the end that is bolted to the plate.

I wish that were the case, but it doesn't extend out far enough to keep the door from hitting the pipe.

Maybe somebody used an XR-2200 on your motorhome. 
Seriously, I'm wondering if a previous owner may have had some kind of personal plate or something and had a mounting bracket there.

It’s the bracket for the light connection. The previous owner was absolutely convinced the round pipe thingy was the trailer hitch receiver. He eventually learned otherwise.

When we had the muffler and tailpipe replaced last year, the exhaust repairman put a new one one the new pipe.

That's a long story - Cliff notes version:
I just recently retired after 40 years of systems engineering/design and integration in both commercial audio/video for the military and wide-area wireless data communications (mostly cellular data systems)
In recent years I've been working with NASA, Caltech, and several universities in studying Exo-Planets orbiting other stars. I also mess around in astrophotography.
Fun stuff...

A heatsink?
OK -- I'm a bit confused as to how the bracket contributes to the performance of the heat shield. Normally heatsinks have significantly more surface area than the devices they are "sinking" the heat from.

Sorry, I missed the bracket. Only saw the plate, acting as a heatshield rather than a heatsink.
Seems like a add-on, no clue.

Bracket on taipipe
Excuse me for being brain dead for a proper name. I think it is to hold the exhaust pipe that goes above the roof of the camper to keep fumes from entering rv. Someone in a camper next door to some one running a generator without the pipe died across the street at Indianapolis Motor Speedway just a few years ago. So if you were boondocking without a generator using engine to boost batteries up you wood want one of these pipes. I think there called Gen-Turi and it has been adapted for the regular exhaust pipe.

I don’t know about that. If you look at the high-resolution version of the picture, it looks like this bracket is designed to be where it is, except it is placed about an inch or so too far from the rear. The notch in the plate looks like it is there to avoid conflict with the nut in the larger plate. It looks like they shifted it and secured it to the large plate with only two bolts instead of four as there are four holes drilled into the smaller plate and only two of them are being used.
