Internet Speed Test Tool Coming
In the next few days you'll see a new option on the upper red RV LIFE bar to take a speed test. If you are camping at a park the info will be used to contribute to collective speed test data that we display at Campground Reviews on each park page. (RV LIFE Campground Reviews is our sister site). Your personal information will not be shared - only the carrier info associated with the internet connection and the test speed. If you are not at a park, you can still take a speed test anytime you like. The info will be only informational for you but it's still fun. Many RVers use Campground Reviews (and RV Life Trip Wizard) when planning trips, and having good connectivity at a park is a prime concern for many when choosing a park.
To enable this tool, we've set up a prompt to allow location services on your device. You can dismiss it if you're not interested but if you would like to take a speed test and you'll need to "allow location detection"
Speed test info reported by real RVers is the most reliable info about what to expect for connectivity at a park and so we're excited at the possibilities for everyone who RVs.

Just a note that this is live today and you may see the location detection request when you login. The link to take a speed test on the top red bar is also live (and quite cool). If you are in a park the speed test results will be attributed to data about that park on the Campground Reviews park page. If you are not near a park, you can still take the test for your own info, if you desire.

I’ve seen this when I do reviews in the sister site. Why can’t it just be kept in the sister site RV Reviews?
I know you want to link it to the review and that allows that but I’ve found, at least in my case, it logs my Verizon cell data speed and not the campground wifi speed because I rarely use the wifi since it is so poor, generally.
If I want a speed test wherever I am then I, as probably most users, have a speed test app on their device.
No biggie for me, just another box to dismiss…

Just deny location requests for the site and it'll stop it from running.

I tried this speedtest today, at a campground and I’m not impressed. RV Life test=.035 download, Meteor=17.7 download, Speedtest.net = 17.1 download. Appears the RV Life system is not very accurate.

Hey All....we could make this a new game. "What's the Highest Speed So Far"?

If I originally clicked "NO" to the location question, can I undo it?

Doesn't show up on Google either. All my bars are green.

The red bar was dismissible (there was an x in the corner) and my guess is that you no longer see it after clicking the x. It reappears every 7 days so you can click the x again
Alternatively you can logout and you will see the bar or open the site in a private window and log in again.
We may need to make some adjustments if this is a usability issue for folks...

FYI... because I'll probably never use the speed test...
I logged out, closed my 'google' browser, and see the red bar before I log in. After I logged in, no red bar. Guess I'll wait 7 days and see if it reappears. I'm pretty sure that I never clicked to close the red bar. That's not something that I do. I usually ignore stuff like that.

Kinda goes hand in hand with the park review prompts I got after using after using RV Life to plan a TT trip with dates. The trip didn't happen as planned but I kept getting almost daily requests for park reviews. It's your site and you can do whatever you want, but I see no valid reason to track all your subscribers.

If you have archived the trip you should not be getting notices but I can look into this if you think this is not the case.

Thanks, but the trip has passed. Does not change the point at issue.
