Is private messaging working

I have sent four private messages to four different people in the last couple of weeks from here in the RGV and nobody has responded. Is the forum messaging working?

I just sent you a PM to test.

I have wondered about this myself. I have sent Thanks to a number of people, some with, some without a comment, and have never gotten a reply.

... and I’ve had replies to PMs sent with no added text - operator error.

Or.....you can do it like this......I’m sending a private message to Mr. Dan, but I have a feeling you’re going to see it’s not too private.

Sometimes "newbies" don't know how to best navigate this (or other social) sites. If folks are on the road, they may not have ready access to decent internet (possibly for an extended time). If what you want to communicate is not private in nature, you might try posting it on the open forum along with a reference to whatever question you're addressing. Give them another chance before you write them off.

It depends on how the thanks are setup. You have the option to turn thanks on or off via pm. If they are off, the member may not be getting a pm when you send them. They would have to view their user cp to see them

The "User CP" is located near the top of the Forest River Forums page.

Just thought that might be helpful.

I have been notified of PMs before, but I just yesterday I went into Quick Links and there were over a dozen Thanks. Apparently the system doesn't notify users when they have been thanked.

Furthermore, the Thanks were not linked to messages so they couldn't be clicked to see the message threads they related to.

Not if they're using the FR app.

Every Thanks PM should have the words "this post" underlined. "I just wanted to let you know that I appreciated this post that you made. It's contributions like this that make this such a great community." You should be able to click on "this post" to see the post for which you're being thanked.

Additionally, down the User CP panel, under Edit Options, there is a "Private Messaging" box. In that box, you'll find a checkbox like the following.

Thanks PM Notification
Would you like to receive a PM whenever someone thanks you for your contribution?
Receive a PM Notification When a Post of Yours is Thanked

[Box lines and little checkbox didn't show up with Copy & Paste but you get the idea.]

PM's have worked for me in the last two days... I use a laptop if that makes any difference...

perhaps the other's have not yet seen your responses... or felt the need to respond...

I didn't see where anyone told you how to send a PM. You asked if PMs are working. We said Yes. You didn't state in your OP you were responding to PMs that were sent to you asking for a question. Either they didn't get your PMs or they don't know how to respond or they just didn't respond. I've been known to send another PM and ask "Did you get the PM I sent?".

Thanks, Mr. Dan! I dug around in User CP for a while yesterday, but it never occurred to me to look in "Edit Options." I assumed (donkey and two pronouns) that those options affected the editor preferences when posting.

Changed now.

Dan, thanks for the test Thanks message. I did receive the notification and found that clicking on the Thread cell took me directly to the message that was being thanked.

Question for you, since you are a site moderator:
Do you have the ability to set the defaults for new users? My Thanks notification setting had not been touched before today--apparently the default is OFF. You would be doing new users a service if you changed it to ON.

Not everyone cares to respond to PM's, not even moderators sometimes.
