Message Toolbar

What is with this message toolbar to read my messages? I hate toolbars. I hate downloads worse that try to cram junk onto my computer. After downloading it and refusing the junk, it appeared that is was still going to install some garbage so I deleted it. If that is what it takes I guess I wont be reading private messages

I honestly don't have any idea- there is an app for folks with smart phones/tablets. But that is the only download that I know of.

Are you able to take and post or email a screen shot?

Not real sure what he's talking about either.
Unless he's using an apple product.

I'm on my iPhone now- but I don't have a Mac computer. Doubt that there is any kind of app for it.

That said- if you are on a phone or tablet and access the website, you'll likely see a bar across the top for the FRF App or Tapatalk. It has always been there in some variation (either a pop-up box before or ribbon across the top now).

Need more info. Screenshot would be perfect.

His rant is regarding thinly veiled attempts by "free" downloads (like Adobe Reader) that have a pre-checked box to OK installation and hijacking of a Microsoft feature (like Explorer) or installing a toolbar (like ASK or Google).

Lou, I wondered about that too- has nothing to do with FRF. I was also thinking some kind of malware. Hoping for a screenshot.

Sometimes I have an Ad at the top of the FR website that says "YOU HAVE 1 PRIVATE MESSAGE" but when you click on it the spam starts. I suspected thats what Prius saw.

The OP mentions "cram junk onto my computer".
If he's on a PC using a normal browser like Firefox or MSIE he needs to get an ad blocker and be done with it.

Brian 2503s, that is what I am talking about. I thought is was something new from FR that I needed to read my messages. I have a new computer and am still configuring everything. Current browser is IE. Havn't used it in a while.

Thanks Bryan. And, as you guessed - it's an ad. It doesn't have anything to do with FRF.

I think the site admins can block specific ads, but I'm not exactly sure how.

Though, like Dan suggested above- using an ad blocker will hide all of that crapola from you. I'm pretty close to installing one- the video ads where you hover over it and it pops up in the center of the screen have become prolific.

Yea, I only see them when I am at work, I don't want to add anything to the work laptop and have to use IE.

I feel for you. I use Chrome 99% of the time. I find it's as quick to start up as IE and is just better overall.

I would use Firefox, it's just so slow to start up.

Thanks for the screen shot. I get that ad too but I avoid clicking on it. I'm also using IE. Look for the little "AdChoice" icon usually in the upper right corner and if you see it then it's some type of advert.

I don't use googles search bar for that reason it is tied into the adchoice system.
