Not responding due to long running script

Recently I have started to get this message every time I access a page on the forum. Do you know what has changed that would cause this to happen? After a time, I am ask if I want to stop the script. I can stop it and look at the page, but when going to the next item I will have to go through the same process.

I am getting the same thing - from the looks of it, it is all the ads that the FRF loads - some of the ads are videos and if you have a slow connection it can take FOREVER to load.

I apologize for the issues some people are having. It appears to be an ad from a specific domain name that is causing the issues. We've blocked this advertiser and hopefully this will address the problem.

This issues are hard to isolate and as some see this and others don't.

If it ever takes the page take forever to load, please look at the bar that shows what's loading and see if you can find the domain name of the offending ad. That's the single most helpful tidbit of info we can get to block them.

Thanks Janet! Problem is fixed on my end -- I will follow your instructions and PM you the domain name if I get another offending ad.

You could pay for a blocking software or you could get most of the benefit for free. Just google 'block ads host file'. You should see Windows, Apple, and Android versions to follow. All this method does, is redirect the hundreds of adware/tracking mess to a non-existent IP address. That renders it useless for the most part.

Janet,

As far as I can see it is the video ads that are killing our browsers - is there any way you can reject those ads? They are very bandwidth intensive

I use the free Adblocker Plus as an add-on to my Firefox browser. I get no video ads.

I followed madmaxmutt's recomendation. Took a couple minutes to do the install. Browsing is now a LOT faster.

Same here Mr. Dan and true across the board on 4 different browsers.

Host File blocking is effective, the problem being it takes a small amount of computer knowledge to implement. Many of the threads we have seen here about this subject have had posts where the poster didn't have a clue about user friendly Adblocker add-ons for their web browser. It's not likely they will grasp the Host File blocking concept. But... maybe!

That is true. It could be a bit tedious for some, but you have grandkids, right? In most cases, you just save a provided file named "hosts." to a directory/folder and it starts working immediately.
Adblocker, as well as just about every other browser add-on, is resource intensive. (read: it's a memory hog). But, to each his own . . .

Glad it worked for you! All of a sudden, I saw about 5 threads on the same issue last night. I just wanted to offer up an alternative to the myriad of ad blocker software applications.
