Political Ads

How do we get rid of the political ads that appear on the site? Enough of the gun control and Mayor Bloomberg's mug shot.

When I refreshed, Bloomberg was gone anyway. Don't know about your certain president.

I've passed this onto the other moderators. I don't have the answer, but hopefully someone with more experience than I do does.

The links I posted works, no more Bloomberg, etc. I think you have to personally check the appropriate boxes that you want to eliminate.

I don't get any such ads. I know Google invades our computers, stealing personal info and then sends us garbage. Maybe Google thinks you are a member of the NRA?

Got rid of them and 115 others. Not a member of NRA either.

Just to show how insidious Google is, I was replying to a post about a water pump issue, and as soon as I posted, an add for the "Sludgemaster" pump appeared on the page. Simply ridiculous.
And maybe this site wouldn't be so slow if there weren't so many useless and annoying ads?

I stopped using Google Easter weekend. I have not seen the Bloomberg ads and don't want to.

No more Google for me. Bing seems good so far.

Most of it is that you fit the profile for the sites you cruise. Changing Google accounts periodically can clean some of this out. The thing you have to remember is that some of this is the price you pay for keeping things free.

I am an NRA member and advocate for those issues...but I do not like the ads either!

This is great.

My 'political ads' on this current page are for AirTran & the Square. If you don't like what you see, be careful where & who surfs on that blasted computer. I sure don't want to be explaining Kate Upton's picture to the DW (she knows too).

Ads are served based on a number of variables including your past surfing history (google knows a lot about you....) but also based on your geo location, and even page content of the page you are currently reading. What that means is that if you are reading a thread on trailer hitches you are likely to see ads from e-trailer. If you're seeing political ads, it's likely you recently viewed an online news source, if you're seeing ads for a 'hot girlz to keep you warm', well... you may have some explaining to do

Being in the IT world for a living and IT security, you are correct. All Ad's are based on 'where you visit' and "cookies" on your pc/device.

About once a week I delete all cookies, temp internet files and browsing history; doesn't eliminate all the ads but it sure helps cut down on the number that pop up.
