Towing questions

Hello need help.
I have a 2016 Lincoln Navigator 4x4 with the Ecco boost v6. Just purchased a 2020 grey wolf 23dbh. Weights 5380lbs. Think I can tow this? Thanks

What's the payload and towing capacity of your TV and hitch weight of your trailer?

Yes please post payload capacity number, from driver's door yellow sticker. It's the Tires and Loading sticker and says "Occupants and cargo should not exceed xxxxlbs".
And please don't use fictional brochure/website dry weight numbers. Those numbers are based on a stripped-down version of the trailer.
That trailer is over 29ft long. Not sure if I'd want to tow that with a 1/2 ton SUV with soft suspension.

You will likely be pushing the limits of the Navi. That is an empty tongue weight posted. Loaded, your tongue weight will be close to 1000. Then add a couple people (and a dog?) and anything you toss in the cargo area.

WDH is required, you should get one with integrated sway control, Blue Ox, Equilizer 4pt etc.

How much weight, including people and cargo will be in the navigator? from the numbers above you have about 600lbs available.

With the short wheelbase Navi, sway might be an issue .
Like this Expedition (same as a Navigator) towing a similar size TT.

I would tow it with that. However, take the time to learn how to set up your hitch yourself and how to load a trailer to prevent sway.

It is amazing though, once that fishtailing starts, it rarely ends well!

Definitely! When I moved up from a 1/2 ton to a 1 ton, I don't actually need to redistribute any weight. So, from a purely weight distribution perspective, I don't need a WDH. With that said, I'd never tow without one.

The sway control (anti-sway) is nearly magical. I have an Equil-I-zer, but I am sure that any good brand will be equivalent. But, my trailer always feels fused to the back of my rig. Maneuvers, massive winds of CO and the midwest, passing and being passed by big rigs, twisty mountain roads, and so on all have almost no effect on how my trailer tracks ... this is with the 1/2 ton towing and with the 1 ton towing.

It's no fun dropping another $500-$700 on a hitch after already feeling like you spent a ton of money on the RV. But, I highly recommend a WDH for any conventional tow trailer, outside of maybe pop-ups.

WDH does not change how much payload your vehicle can carry. It just distributes some of that load to the front wheels. As someone posted above, it is required for your vehicle anyway.
Some folks will say send it, others will say you are crazy for overloading a vehicle by a couple hundred pounds. IMHO, the deciding factor is weather you overload your axle ratings.

From the numbers you posted seems fine to me. I would expect your tongue weight to be about 800lbs with a loaded trailer.

That hitch weight will be closer to 1000 lbs once loaded

Here is the math for you to make a decision.

HW = hitch weight of TT (12% of loaded trailer weight).
100= weight of WDH hitch
C= Cargo weight in tow vehicle
PW= weight of passengers

the math
1620- (HW+100+C+PW) should be greater than 0
