Turn off download app nag? How?

I dont want to download the app the site keeps asking me to download every time I click on a page. I can't find where to turn that off in the settings. Is there a way to do this? It's driving me nuts - is the software really not smart enough to figure out that if I clicked "no" a hundred times I still mean no?!

I'm just fine. Site works perfectly on my iPhone and iPad. Don't need the app. Was asked 2 more times while attempting to post this reply... Enough is enough already. I thought people figured out that spam actually pissed people off several years ago???

They are turned off. It's not a "pop up" - in Internet advertising terms its called a "road block" and it's damn irritating to say the least.

Roadblocks and interstitials (those irritating ads that "float" over an entire page until you close them out) have perameters that are generally configured by the site allowing them to be run. Most sites tend not to run roadblocks or interstitials as they know that sort of advertising tends to piss off their readers, so you'll generally see that sort of tactic employed by sites like porn sites, or mega markerting sites - those who simply don't care if they piss anyone off.

For those sites that do care about their readers, limits of how often such ads can be run are usually put in place, along with frequency of rebroadcast, size of ad etc. Good example are irritating ads that auto play audio or video when you visit a site or a page. Responsible sites will shunt that action to be forced by a rollover or a click to initiate.

Guess the non response and the constant barrage begging me to download the app must be the way the site is headed. Enough to make me not visit to be honest. Too bad. Great place otherwise but hate being spammed.

Perhaps download it and then delete it, or just keep it and not use it. I know, kinda stupid to have to work around nagging apps.

That's a great idea - Id consider it, but then wouldn't I be revealing my apple ID and all my billing information to this site? I'd rather not do that.

I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think downloading an app shows your information to the app owners/creators. Even if you buy an app the owners get paid through Apple, not directly from your acct. At least that's the way I think it works.

Is this still happening? I did some digging on this issue... the app (free to forum members) is made by a third party developer (forum runner) and has been customized a bit for the forum. There have been some reports of this issue in the past few days mostly for iPad users says the developer...

BTW - your apple info is not ever seen by use - no info, etc. And while it prolly goes without saying, we don't share, load, rent or sell your forum account info....

This wont work, I use both on my pad and still get the nag. Just a guess but I think apple want's you to use app's because they are optimized for the format which most sites are not in safari. A lack of flash for example. So IMHO it's apples nag

Yes, it still happens on both my IPhone and my iPad.

Nag doesn't seem to recognize or remember your response - for me it's "no thanks" yet nag appears with almost every page refresh or click on the site. Every topic I click on I get hit with the nag.

I have also experienced this however I don't think the "nag" is coming from the app but from the forum's website itself. It detects that the "client" connecting to the website is an iOS client thus it offers the app.

I only get it when I first come to FRF. Once I click cancel I can browse in peace. Personally I hate apps for websites. If I installed the app for every website that asks me- I would have dozens on there.

The only time I will install the app is if there is a huge benefit to me. I think the only one I have is Canadian Tire. I have their app mostly for the bar code scanner; and the shopping list feature is nice too.

For the people that suggested installing it then removing it- that won't work. I used to have the FRF app and have since removed it. I still get prompted. It would be nice to have something in our user settings- but I don't think that's an options with the software used.
