Smile 2 Months in a Forester MBS with Family!

Hey Forester Friends,

My wife and I are planning a trip leaving March 1 with our 14 year old son and our 4 month old daughter. We'll be toad-hauling my Jeep, and making the trip from Coastal California to, ultimately, the Florida Keys. Were planning on spending about 4 weeks heading that direction, mountain biking, hiking, visiting historic spots, National Parks, etc. This will be our first long trip with it as a whole family.

We're driving a 2019 Forest River Forester MBS. Not a ton of space for this long of a trip!

We plan on weighing everything before it goes into the rig, and staying below the max GVWR. Any recommendations from those of you who travel with kids? How long would you drive for between camp areas? Would you book all of the sites in advance, or leave some areas open ended? Anything you would recommend bringing? Or leaving behind? Any travel tips or suggestions?

Looking forward to reading any replies!

That sounds like a great trip. We don't travel with kids (grown now), but we have had several trips of 2-3 months. We plan a max distance of around 300 miles so that the driver or passenger doesn't get too tired. Plan on getting off the road early so that you have time to hook up in the daylight and have dinner.

You're traveling in a great rig for children. With all the people who've bought rigs to travel the country, I'd recommend making reservations along the way.

As far as things to bring, bring the minimum. You can always buy something you need on the road. For clothes, think 'layering'. I strongly recommend you bring a sense of humor for the trying times.
