Cost of campgrounds

We stay 95% at Provincial Parks, both B and B grew up camping in the forest beside that lake with nice sandy beaches. We have many parks to choose from on Lake Huron and Lake Erie within a 2 hour drive. Some parks are totally private others are semi private sites but none are stacked like cord wood like the KOA for $90 a night.

I would bet most readers here would not know what "hydro" is
since I am somewhat fluent in Canadien (yes that the way we were taught to spell in in Ontario schools in the early 50's)

The KOA near Phoenix, AZ, is $38/night, and the one at Estes Park is more, but they're both a little less with the discount card. Though our routine is changing as we add more Highland Games to our schedule, we still mostly camp at Forest Service or state 'grounds, where there are no hookups. But at some places the Geezer Pass (f.k.a. Golden Eagle) helps.

In New York at the State Parks n electric site costs about $27 and our local KOA you can get a full hook up for $35 both to me are a good deal. In both you get sites that you can be on Lake Ontario or the St. Lawrence river.

In Kansas we use the ACOE, 18-22 dollars a night. Full hook ups for the higher end, at Melvern Outlet and it's real nice. And we use Passport America when we go on vacation. Two years from now we'll get golden age and that will help a lot . Also Prarrie Band casino north of Topeka is inexpensive. Enjoy what ever you do.

Hey B and B Have you checked the prices at say Bon Echo or the other top spot P.P. Was looking at Bon Echo a spot is $138 for electric only ( I hope I was reading that wrong!!! ) The prices I find at P.P. varies on popularity of park.

$138.99 is for 3 nights electric at Bon Echo.

Where can you get that close to the beach in VA? We've stayed in VA beach, both at the KOA (gross), and the one across the street, which was wonderful, but neither was close to the beach. They did offer beach parking though if you got there at some unGodly hour of the morning.

I understand totally because both my parents and my sister were from Canada but some of the people from down south I have a hard time with there terminology and accent. I'm willing to bet most can figure it out just as we figure out what they are talking about. I had a hard time in school because of the way they spell some things and my mother would try to help and didn't. Today we are going to take a day trip to Canada and visit for Lunch and Dinner and a little shopping.

Yes but do you know why we refer to electric as "hydro" ? it comes from the full term "Hydro generated electrical power" Water turned turbines to generate electricity, but we also use nuclear power (ours is one of the safest systems in the world I must add) Your lesson for today

Our favourite Campground Inverhuron is beside 8 Nuclear Reactors (Bruce Generating Station) and we still refer to it as Hydro. In fact the Electric Company in our city is Kitchener Wilmot Hydro.

I just retired from Toronto Hydro Electric System (31 years) and I live in between two nuclear plants , Pickering and Darlington. Always talking about Hydro Now back to cost of camp grounds HAHA

I believe we pay the most for camping in Ontario. Looking at the cost in Florida what is a decent monthly cost for a park that is geared to seniors and has a little space on your site?

Cost is all over the place. We ended up joining a membership resort and have loved it and the access to coast deluxe resorts. My favorite is Shenandoah crossing. Had hot tub on individual sites lol

Camping like everything else has gotten expensive.

As the op asked about full hook ups, I generally pay about $100 a night to camp with sewer. I like to downgrade to a W/E site and save another $10 a night. The $10 is worth me toting the sewage in my tote.

And technically it still does. It's just referring to electricity generated by water. It comes from the majority of our electricity in this region (down here by Windsor at least) being generated by Niagara Falls.

And it's not so much a Canadian thing as it is an Ontario thing (and maybe Quebec). I've confused people in Alberta before by referring to hydro.
