I just made one this week for our trip coming up this weekend. They aren't too hard to make. I just used a 1/4" trim router.

For anyone heading for the Myrtle Beach area, there’s a guy at Hudson’s Surfside Flea Market south of Myrtle Beach on Bus. 17. Google Hudson Flea Market. I don’t think he’s there all year.

This is one I made for our campsites. It’s a garden flag.

Make your sign if you must, just be certain that you do it right. If John Smith has a family, they would be known as the Smiths.

The Scicolones, the Trudells, and the Toltzmans will need to find some filler to remove the misplaced apostrophes in their signs. Maybe ask for a partial refund from your sign maker?

I've also seen stuff like, "Your welcome to stop by and say, 'Hello.'" Don't count on your sign maker to proof stuff ... it'll be you who ends up looking foolish.

Good luck.

Just bought one

Three weeks ago in Yuma at a mostly permanent flea market. Pretty much custom as I chose the text, the font and the 'graphics' from hundreds of options. It is a cedar board with the text/graphics routed in and painted. About $50 for an 18 X 8 inch sign. Search for CustomWoodSignShop on google, etsy or facebook.

I wouldn't say that I "proof read" them. I simply read them. And, when there are egregious mistakes in those signs, they are noticeable by me and many others. I just recommend that people take some care when making a sign so that it reads correctly and that they don't memorialize silly mistakes. Why would that be a bad recommendation?

Well if the apostrophe being there keeps an obnoxious jacka$$ like yourself from stopping by our campsite, then I would say that the $15 we spent on that sign 32 years ago was money well spent.

I'm sorry and do not mean to offend you and of course we are all different, but we go camping to get away, relax, and have fun. I could care less if there is a mistake on a sign. There could be a mistake on my sign I do not know do not care. I do not think any error on a sign could be called egregious.

What I do care about is finding out why a 27 year old man went to work and is never going home or why the 40 year old lady got her hair caught in a machine and lost her hair and scalp, those are just a couple of incidents I am investigating during March. A misplaced comma or what ever error is just not that big of deal sorry and certainly not an egregious mistake.

...............and sorry a puppy is not going to die due to a error in our grammar.

We go camping to relax.

I think you have this backward. I'm not offended. I'm not calling people names and such. Those are other people. I'm simply stating that before you create a sign whose very purpose is to introduce and represent you to passers-by, it's a good thing to make sure to get it right so that you don't memorialize a silly mistake.

I think that's good advice and I stand by it. But, it's just that: advice. People can choose to ignore it. Maybe you don't care about punctuation, homophones, verb tense, or myriad other rules of writing. That's up to each individual. But, do a search on Google for "misspelled signs." You'll find pages and pages of banter where people make fun of the authors who can't seem to get a simple sign correctly. You can choose to believe that no mistake on a sign could be considered egregious and I will believe otherwise.

Let's steer this back to something useful:

Here is an Etsy site that lists lots of different options for wood signs.

JG Wood Signs

People/Companies advertise via ebay.

This seems like a mom and pop shop.

And my recommendation is to find someone who uses beetle kill pine. For those unaware, in the western US and Canada, the pine beetle is killing off hundreds of thousands of acres. I don't want to turn this into a beetle thread, though. The point is that these killed trees are being reclaimed and used. The pine wood has a unique look due to how it was killed and an industry has sprung up around using this wood for tables and other decorative pieces. Anyway, I think it looks quite nice.

This place has a Colorado theme, but probably could do other stuff.

I think the signs with some 3D art on them look nice:

our sign. The campground sign was made for us from a shop in Gatlinburg, TN. The fireman who made signs on the forums made the dog bone.

We can remove the dog bone when we don't take the furry kids (NP visits)

a quick thought. If one needs to point out others mistakes, they should make sure they are perfect first. Judging one on their lack of prefect grammar is petty in the scheme of things

Mr. Eiger sent us emails with pictures of his 'proof' and we suggested changes, back and forth.......until we finally agreed and then paid him, and then he built it. Worked well. Ours was a bit complex with colors and pictures.

I just bought a new router so I'm going to start making simple ones. Routers are pretty easy to use and this one I just bought is a little Bousch trim router. There's also a place called Etsy and there's a bunch of custom sign making people on there
