Talking Hot Apple Pie - sweet alcohol

This is a favorite of mine...

Bring the following to a boil in a BIG pot on the stove:
- 1 gallon apple juice
- 1/2 gallon apple cidar
- none up to a couple of cups of white sugar (I like 1-2 cups personally)
- a handful of cinnamon sticks (up to about 6)

After it boils, let it simmer for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

Scoop out the cinnamon sticks. Note, they break up and will leave crap floating in your drink. Your level of care is your own to choose - unfortunately my wife's level of care is bothersome and I end up filtering the whole thing later to remove as much as possible.

While still hot, add about 3/4 of a bottle of everclear/grain alcohol.

Cool as quickly as safely possible. (we've literally put the pot into snow outside or just set it out on the grill until it cools naturally)

Consume. The longer it lasts (weeks), the sweeter it gets and the less hints of alcohol in it.

For serving - I prefer it over ice and to be as cold as possible. Some people claim they serve it warm, though I've never had it that way.

I swear to you, while you drink it - it tastes JUST like eating a pie. To that end, be careful - it's VERY easy to over indulge.

Toodles.

I heard a tip to add a little brown sugar, so I tried that this time. It's outside cooking now- we'll see how it goes.

These cinnamon sticks weren't fresh like I usually get, so they stuck together and didn't leave a mess behind (we'll see if their flavor is as strong). Easier so no filtering, though.

That sounds really good. I bet it makes your camp site rather noisy though.

Served best out of mason jars- but red solo cups work well, too.

Our good friend makes this and it's a favorite at the campground here in NY. Presented in the Mason jar off course. Like candy going down but be warned!!! Lethal in small doses. Everclear is actually illegal to sell in about 7 states. NY being one of them. He gets in in Connecticut. Want to know how strong it really is? Throw a shot glass worth of straight Everclear on the campfire and stand back. Will get a laugh if nothing else. All good! Enjoy!

This is a pretty popular drink around these parts. We have it often at socials. Zero hint of any alcohol... And mighty tasty.

Seems to me that a glass vessel of some sort would be best.

Yup. Illegal to sell in Pennsylvania. I've actually bought it here in MD and taken it back home for my Dad (who taught me to make this wonderous drink).

Haha! Everclear is used as, among other things, a base product in the perfume industry, for cleaning industrial equipment, and appropriately, a fuel for camping stoves. All true! Drink up my friends. It's awesome! If my friend could sell his mix he'd be a rich man.

We let it sit for 5 days and cracked it out tonight. Seems funny to me to drink it from a Sound Of Music glass, but enough of this and I'll *see* music!

We've had Apple Pie around as long as I can remember, although it's never made with store bought liquor.

I let it cool before adding the alcohol. That way there is no loss of alcohol through evaporation.
