How safe do you think your possessions are when RVing?

I'm curious about the general perception that you have about security when camping. Generally speaking, DW and I have a different level of trust going on at RV spots. I tend to view RVers as more trustworthy than the general public. She views them as less so than me. This is true in other areas as well, she'll lock me out of my truck when I'm going to be right next to it!

When you leave your RV to go somewhere, do you?

A) Leave RV unlocked and camp setup as is?
B) Lock your RV door but leave storage unlocked and camp setup as is?
C) Lock your RV and storage areas and leave camp setup as is?
D) Lock your RV and storage areas and put away valuables?
E) All of the above plus install webcams, motion sensors and siren set tornado warning mode?
F) Other __________

Bonus Question - Have you ever had anything stolen when camping? If so, was it:
1) Private RV park
2) State Park
3) City Park
4) National Park
5) Army Corp of Eng Park
6) Quasi Gov Park (River authorities, etc)
7) Other ____________

My answers:
B
Bonus - No

Are camping chairs, rugs, grills, grill tables etc considered valuables to be locked up?

I'd hate to have to lock all of those items up each time. I can see putting away my grill but sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.

D. If we're plugged into electric or it's cool outside, we often leave our pitbull inside if we're out for the day. He's quite a deterrent to breaking in.

I hate clutter so I keep a clean camp to begin with. Grill and chairs get left out and that is it.

Trailer gets locked when I take the trash to the dumpster. Storage compartments and truck stay locked unless being accessed. Hell, I lock my Clearsource to the ladder it is hanging from.

Even inside I will stash "expensive/dangerous" things out of sight when I leave just to make things more difficult while leaving easy to replace items in plain sight.

Since moving to solar and unlimited hotspot that I only use in my RV, I am tempted to get a Ring system for when in storage and boondocking. Four lithium batteries are $$$.....

I'm on a seasonal site so I actually know my camping neighbors quite a bit better than most people that are just spending the weekend in a site surrounded by people they've never met before.

Although there is really nothing stopping someone walking/driving by on the public road from coming into the campground when nobody is paying attention. To my knowledge, that has never happened though.

That being said my answers are:

A
Bonus - No

97% of the time, B - my wife locks the RV door but we typically leave the hatches unlocked and camp setup.

3% of the time (if my spidey sense tingles), C - we'll lock the RV door, hatches, and potentially our bikes.

Only once did I feel the need to lock the grill.

The one time I had something stolen, it was at a City park. Though, I've had racoons make off with food at state parks before.

Campgrounds (and boondocking in the wilderness) are generally safe.

In 35 years of camping and 10 years of RVing (with 5 of those being fulltime), the only things I've ever heard of being stole are bikes occasionally, once a grill, and sometimes a cooler of beer. Raccoons have also made off with food while we tent camped a few times.

I've only ever heard of 1 "break-in" at a NASCAR event; dude walked into someone else's claiming was looking for his wife. Other people later reported items stolen.

A vast majority of the time, my hatches are unlocked. And more than I like to admit, my truck keys are usually laying on the dash the day (or days) that we get there until I move the truck the first time.

We lock up the trailer and storage on the trailer when we leave the campsite, but don't worry too much about leaving out things like our chairs, camp stove, etc. When we've hauled our recumbent trikes with us on trips, we will secure them with cables and locks when we leave the campsite.

We did a lot of trips in our '99 Coleman Nevada popup, which is about as unsecure as a trailer can get. It would not be any problem to simply loosen the canvas at either end, to gain access to the trailer. Still, we never had anything stolen in all the time we used it.

With our new Wolfpup, we're more concerned about the trailer itself getting stolen from home, than we are about any thievery in the campgrounds. Trailers have been a hot target item for thieves in recent years, so we make sure to keep security measures in place when we have it parked between trips.

Never had anything stolen anywhere.
We will lock up the RV, door and cubbies, although a screwdriver can open any of them as easy as a key. Depending on where I am, I might run a cable through my generators and secure them to the front landing gear. I leave chairs, fuel cans, water jugs, and grill out.
I have nothing in the RV I couldn't stand to lose. I have insurance.
If I felt I had to have a camera or notifying alarms to watch my stuff, I would probably stop RVing. Besides, most places I go have no internet or cell reception. That is why I go there
Is any group or type of people more trustworthy than others? That is impossible to say. I think the answer to that lies in your own perceptions.

C, I mostly boondocks. The only time anything happened was all my storage doors were pried open at my storage facility, but nothing was stolen. My feelings were hurt that I had nothing worth stealing.

We have been RV-ing since 1986. The only thing ever taken was some firewood. There was a group of college age kids tent camping two sites down from us. They stayed up late and we suspect they "borrowed" it!

But generally when leaving the campsite we "D."

Been camping since 2013 never lock the RV doors or the storage compartments and never had anything taken. We usually are at a private campsite and occasionally at State parks.

"D" & No for me.

A snowbird I met a couple of months ago turned me on to padlocking the electrical box to protect someone from nabbing your expensive surge protector.

My wife and I met and lived in NYC for 11 years, and this was before it was "safe". Old habits are had to break... we lock the trailer when we leave it and I lock the storage. I also secure the portable solar, though if someone really wanted it, its just a security cable... the chairs and grill on the side stay there. I've never had a problem, but then again, as long as many of you aren't locking things up, we aren't in the easy picking' category. Same thing at home, half my neighbors don't even know where their house keys are and the only way they keep track of their car keys is by leaving them in the ignition.

I also lock the surge protector to the box...
