When camping I feel very safe.

I lock up everything when I'm away from my campsite. I make no differentiation between Home, Rest Area, RV Park, or Boondocking Site. If I treat ALL the same then I won't tend to forget when it's most important.

We live in a far different society today than that of my first 30-40 years. Even boondocking sites are vulnerable to those who will take advantage of an opportunity as the go cruising around on the FS roads.

As for personal security, let's just say "I am my own 911". The real service is often several hours away from where I camp, even if I could reach it on the phone.

Several years ago we were in Newfoundland and spent a night at a B&B. They also offered a salmon dinner that we quickly agreed on. While the hubby and wife were working on dinner in the kitchen we were sitting at the counter, watching them. At one point the hubby turned to his wife and said have you seen the truck? No, she had not. They kept on working.

I had to ask! Oh, someone must have needed to use it. It will be back by morning, and may have more gas in it. No worries. No, it was not locked and the keys were in it.

If that happened here in the states the truck would never be seen again.

I was in Newfoundland about ten years ago or so on my motorcycle. I couldn't believe how friendly the Newfoundlanders were. I had to turn down offer after offer of places to stay by people I'd meet along the way, and ended up staying at a few places during my trip.

Depends on how long we'll be gone and what the campgrounds look like.
Usually C. We put up things that may be worth stealing and we always lock the doors when we're away from camp. Wouldn't want rugrats to get in and accidentally hurt themselves.
Bonus. We've never had anything stolen.

D - we always lock up & never leave anything valuable outside or inside.
At the campgrounds we've been to, we've heard some say their coolers were "raided" while they were away. But we've never had anything stolen.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I forgot about our bikes, we lock those up each time we leave. Those are pretty valuable.

I hadn't thought of the surge protector.

40 years of camping from pop-ups to 5th wheels to travel trailers and we've never had anything taken from inside or outside the RV. We do lock the RV door but leave stuff outside with no issues. Items like bikes, chairs, portable stoves and lighting, satellite dishes, etc.

I've yet to hear a first hand account of a surge protector being stolen and I am on probably 15-20 Facebook RVing groups (even run one) and have been on a variety of web forums for the past 10 years.

I guess there is an unwritten code of understanding that campers and RV'ers tend to be alert, aware, law abiding, respectful and patriotic, if you get what I mean. Friendly, family oriented, helpful, generous and courteous to a point but absolutely no tolerance for low lifes, criminals and tweekers.
I think that's why bad people avoid campgrounds.

That's been my impression and why I generally don't think someone is going to steal my stuff.
