the only time we had anything 'stolen' was when we were NOT at a campground or rv park - but an overnight at a Freightliner shop, waiting for service the next day - a roadbike taken off the back of the coach, not locked.

we've also never used our 'scare light' since it only adds to give anyone the easy view of your RV - I like dark, it doesn't make it any easier for them.

Lock doors rarely only if leaving for the day or night.

Anything stolen: no and been camping since 1985.

We trust other campers here in Alabama.
We have been RV'ing for about 15 years and have never even lost a beer out of the cooler I always leave out and with beer packed on ice.
God said "Thou shalt not steel" and that is where my faith is.

Happy Camping!

Have never had any thing stolen. But todays world is different than yesterday's.
With that said I lock camper dor and storage compartments when we leave, Have locks on propane tanks and battery boxes. Always leave chairs, grill, and
folding table out.

[QUOTE=RockwoodTexan;2579474]I'm curious about the general perception that you have about security when camping. Generally speaking, DW and I have a different level of trust going on at RV spots. I tend to view RVers as more trustworthy than the general public. She views them as less so than me. This is true in other areas as well, she'll lock me out of my truck when I'm going to be right next to it!

When you leave your RV to go somewhere, do you?

D) Lock your RV and storage areas and put away valuables?

We too believe that campers are generally nice people, and mostly honest too. However, leaving valuables and an unlocked RV is not smart anywhere. We try to keep "the honest people honest" by not leaving temptations around.

Bonus Question - Have you ever had anything stolen when camping? If so, was it:
1) Private RV park
2) State Park
3) City Park
4) National Park
5) Army Corp of Eng Park
6) Quasi Gov Park (River authorities, etc)
7) Other ____________

Nothing stolen yet.

Good Luck

C/D; no.

When away from the site for a short time (taking a walk) we lock the RV door, the hatch where the LFP batteries are stored, and the truck. Expensive tote tank is always cabled to the ladder. Otherwise, camp is left set up but everything's replaceable.

When away from the campground, everything is locked and loose stuff is stowed. Camp chairs are folded against the RV, maybe making it easier to carry off?

D, No.
The only items we leave out are a couple of chairs, a large rug if allowed and/or needed, a small rug at the bottom of the stairs, a small foldable table and a covered can for our dog's used "poop" bags.

Q1: D, but valuables are defined as small electronics, purse/wallet, keys, and that stuff goes with us. The regular detritus of a campsite, from grill to chairs, etc. all stays and fends for itself.
One exception, our generator is chained to a tree. Not a great deterrent to a determined thief (e.g. one with a universal key: https://smile.amazon.com/SATA-Heavy-...NsaWNrPXRydWU= ), but good for the unprepared opportunist.

Q2: No

Camping habits: Almost exclusively boondocking where there is no or almost no supervision. In my opinion, I think there is a greater risk of loss at an RV park, because there is so much human traffic passing by continuously. We are not armed, but when you're in the boonies, many people are, and you'd REALLY have to want a used gas grill to risk your life for it.

Sooner or later, we will get cleaned out. A risk of being alive.

How safe do you think your possessions are when RVing?

I wired a Haloview cam at my door directly to 12v with an inside switch so that I can use it even when I’m not plugged in to the truck. It can record but I did it primarily so that if I hear anything outside, I can check without opening up. (Female solo camper.) I’ve never seen anything besides non-human animals but it’s nice to have and I enjoy the critter-cam anyhow [emoji4]

D and No. I left my surge protector at a campsite in
Texas plugged in to the pedestal. Realized it when we went to set up the next day. Called the campground and the host drove to the site we used and it was still hanging there. Had him mail it to our home paid postage and added another $20 for beer. We really scan our site before driving off now! We belong to a camping group here in SoCal and are always reading about bikes etc being stolen. Especially near the beach areas. Lots of homeless. I choose not to camp at those campgrounds.

RV is locked when we are inside or away from the RV.
Storage and bikes locked at night.
2 furry deterrents and one that isn't.
If I notice scruffy drive bys I ramp up attention.

We have a two camera Blink system with suction cup mounts. We can put them anywhere on the RV. This sends a text when something comes into camp and we can talk and listen if needed.
