On our last trip to the northwest we knocked off a whole group of states we hadn't been to before so we were able to add a number of new state stamps to our map on the outside of our little camper trailer. But it seemed to me we needed a little something to commemorate adding a new stamp to our collection. So I wrote a poem we could integrate into our stamping ceremony. I thought you might be interested.
Ode to a Stamp
We just made it to another state,
Drifted in like a tramp,
And now we lift a glass to our fate,
And add another stamp.
All day hiking on the trail,
Can leave you with a cramp,
By then you will have another tail,
To go with another stamp.
In the dark we only have a lighter,
So we find a lonely street lamp,
Now the night looks a little brighter,
As we add another stamp.
Even if your story is kind of sad,
And you feel your eyes grow damp,
You can lean on your old comrade,
When you add another stamp.
Went down a long back road,
Just looking for a place to camp,
Now we’re here to lighten our load,
While we add another stamp.
As you roam you get older,
And the kids start calling you gramp,
But as we age we are bolder,
So we can add another stamp.
We have nothing in life to unravel,
Nothing left to revamp,
So drink to the best of all the travel,
And add another stamp.
