What is the longest you will drive for a weekend?

What is the length you would drive for a weekend (Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning) and how far do you normally drive?

I can't imagine driving more then a two or three hours. But I guess I am suppose it depends on your area and what is around you.

Various factors will affect that, such as if I'm going to a particular event (like a family gathering or something). Or if Friday actually means Friday morning and not Friday at 7 at night after work.

For the Friday after work and just going for the sake of going, I usually stick within an hour's drive. Maybe 1.5 hours.

I'm about the same as the OP anymore especially if I'm taking the camper. If I'm going over 2-3 hours I'll take an extra day off work. We live on a lake so most weekends we only drive 10-30 minutes depending on which side of the lake.

When I was younger I would scrounge up as many friends that would fit in my jeep and we would drive 8 hours to South Padre Island on a Friday after work, and come home on Sunday. Those were fun days, I couldn't imagine doing that now! Although it would be fun...

Our rule of thumb.... number of hours driven is equal to or less than number of nights camped.

So for a long weekend, leaving Friday after work and staying until Sunday - 2hrs max.

Hour to hour and half if i leave right after work on a friday. I got a wedding over 300 miles away at the end of the month so I priced hotel vs towing and decided to bring my own bed and make a 4 day weekend out of it.

Anywhere under 4 hours. I don't like getting to a campground when it is dark. Coming home is usually Ok as we leave around noon on Sunday.

Our seasonal site is 2 hours away. Great place but I wouldn't want to drive any further than that on a normal weekend.

About this but we're pretty OK setting up in the dark.

Most of our favorite state parks are 2-1/2 to 3 hours away.

Depends on the motivation...for "just camping" it's one thing, but if there's an organized bike ride or some other major event we'll go farther. Three hours for a standard weekend is about the outside, though. We almost always take at least half of Friday off anyway.

90 minutes is our guideline... assuming we're leaving after work on Friday. If it's more, usually take the day off work.

Slightly off topic but another thing we noticed in our area, if we take a half or full day off on Friday, traffic seems heavier and slower earlier in the day than if we leave after work (7pm about). Although our later drive will include more 18 wheel type trucks, you almost never see people with huge campers driving as the sun goes down. The people with the larger RVs are already enjoying a cold one around a campfire as we are starting our drive.

If we take an extended weekend, we like to take off on Monday. Who doesn't like skipping work on a Monday.

One of the great things about a seasonal site, you can arrive later and be camping in a few minutes. Turn on the water, a few lights and crack open a cold one. Takes about an hour to get packed up and cleaned up before the ride home.

First off, we are retired, so that factors in. Most cases it usually is no more than 3 hours, very rarely, its 5. But its a long weekend, leave on Thursday, come home Monday or Tuesday. And it depends on the campground, if it is a holiday weekend and it's a State Park with just electric, that means when you leave on Monday you will be in the DUMP LINE for 2 hours waiting your turn - that's the weekend we leave on Tuesday!!

For us, on a regular weekend 1.5 hours would be the max, or 75-90 miles. Luckily, we have several campgrounds within that time frame. Any longer makes everything seem rushed to us, and like others, we try to schedule at least 3 nights camping, and longer is possible. You are right too, it depends on what's around you, road conditions, etc. Good luck finding a close, convenient, and enjoyable campground. That, or more time off :-)
