Why no RV shows on TV
I can’t believe there isn’t a single weekly show about the RV lifestyle. There are cable shows for fishing, hunting, baseball, football, basketball, rebuilding cars, remodeling your house, etc. But nothing about RVing.
I’m not trying to offend anyone, but the list of mindless shows is extensive. Every week you can watch people bid on storage lockers, pick through trash, chase ghosts, chase bail jumpers, repossess cars, cut down trees, drive on icy roads, pawn their possessions, world’s dumbest this or that, the list goes on and on and yet, nothing about RVing.
I guess I’m the only one that would watch a 30 minute show that might highlight a national park or tourist area, show new RV products, show a new floor plan in a RV, perhaps demonstrate the proper way to winterize a system or sanitize a fresh water system, etc.
I’d be willing to bet that almost everyone on these forums have seen the movie RV with Robin Williams or the classic movie The Long, Long Trailer. I just can’t believe there isn’t enough interest that a weekly RV show on television couldn‘t find sponsors. I’d watch it, especially in the winter when my Wildcat fifth wheel is in hibernation.

Who wants to watch a bunch of folks sitting around a campfire drinking beer for an hour?

There use to be a great show on tv that would test new camping items and highlight different RV each week. They also traveled across the country and gave reviews of different campgrounds.

I don't know Herk, that might be fun to watch after they have a half case of beer.

i've watched the last shows that were on about extreme RV's. while they are somewhat enjoyable to watch, they are over the top in terms of comparing to actual RV'ing.. these are units that are custom built for movie personalities, nascar drivers etc.and are more luxury home away from home.
there was one episode showing all-terrian RV's and also custom built all-wood mini-homes on wheels. that was kinda interesting.these were on the travel channel.
how about "Ice Road RV'ers....?

Extreme RV comes on once in awhile. My DVR recorded 3 shows the other day. Each show is 1 hour long and shows RV's that only movie stars and oil company execs can afford.
EDIT: realebill you beat me to it.

"The Long, Long Trailer".....yy favorite Lucille Ball movie!! I have it on DVD, along with a few years of "I Love Lucy" and a couple of other "forgettable" Desi and Lucy movies and it's stored in my TT. Everyone should have to see this at least a couple of times.

There used to be a show on TNN in the late eighties to early ninetieys called Wish you were here. It was hosted by a guy named Kenny Price and his wife Donna. He was a former star from the old Hee Haw show. They would travel the country and review various campgrounds and places to see. They would also review the different types of RV's they used each week. It was a wonderful show but Kenny passed away in the middle of the season and the show ended. They did put Pat Boone in there for awhile but he was awful, he seemed clueless.

I've only seen a few RV shows but I really liked the show with the high price RVs that were custom ordered for Jeff Gordon (or was it some other race car driver?).

Can't be any worse than watching fishing! I liked RV Today, then that was gone and another started. That didn't seem as interesting, but then their format started looking like RV Today. I miss Stew Oleson.

long long honeymoon
Not quite a TV show, but you may want to check out longlonghoneymoon dot com
I believe it is about a couple that bought an Airstream and went on a cross country honeymoon. They may even still be out there somewhere. I think they created many many video's. Kinda fun to watch.
Heck, be creative..... make your own series about your adventures and put it out there on you tube.

They televise hours and hours of grown men in tight spandex running around, calling themselves tight ends and half backs and other men smacking a little ball all over the country side trying to get that little white ball in a small hole. If they made the holes bigger, I'm sure they can save time and then have enough time for an RV show. Real men, drinking beer and tring to start a fire. Just saying.

I would if I was on the other side of the fire with my beer.

With all the baby boomers coming into retirement age, if I were the RVIA I would be producing TV shows promoting the RV lifestyle. A heck of a lot of people will be retiring over the next 15 years.

Hi All,
We have a lot of camping / travel shows on free to air TV, but not specifically for large RVs. Pat Callinan's4X4 Adventures is one of the most popular. If you want to see how we camp in Australia this link has a lot of video clips about our country and what we camp in. Hope it works ok.

Hey now, let's not start knocking the NFL, it's one of the best TV products out there. It's practically a made for TV event.
That said, I do think there's PLENTY of room on cable for a weekly, "down to earth" style show about RVs and the RV lifestyle. "Extreme RV" is OK to watch, but it doesn't translate much to the 99% of us who can't afford those units (ever notice they NEVER mention the price of any of the RVs they cover?) I'd watch a show about normal, dealer-available units that the regular guy can go out and purchase, floor plans, features, etc, and then have a segment on road trips--RV parks, attractions, good road stories, etc. Someone get the cable execs on the phone!

My local public television station has a weekly "Texas Parks and Wildlife" show that highlights a state park. Kinda interesting to see and pick which ones we might like to visit. I would most definetly watch a daily, weekly or even monthly rv show.
