Am I being prey to a new sales tactic?

I’ve been looking at a 2516 or 2608 and found one for a significantly lower price than anyone else. I inquired and got email saying it was “priced online incorrectly”. To be fair, they are willing to honor the price advertised. Is there a “catch” I’m missing?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

What is the make/model of the rig? The numbers don't tell us what you are looking at.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi and Welcome to FRF.
You need to provide more information, like:
Which dealership are you talking about?
What price were you looking at?
What year is it?
What is their "correct" price?

Doing a quick search that price is probably not a mistake depending on build sheet. I seen from 44k to 52k price range.

Here's a used 2021 for 27k asking price. If you want to save a few $$$.

Check out the prices on rvtrader.com https://www.rvtrader.com/Forest-Rive...2608BS%7C59474

Price depends on when it was actually built because the cost of materials and labor has gone up. It also depends on the area you're shopping in and 'add ons'. Things like type of refrigerator, size of air conditioner, type of tires, etc. can drastically affect the price. For example, one that has a two way refrigerator is going to be more than the new 12v.

Before you pull the trigger and buy it, you need to find another one and compare features as well as price.

after record sales of RV's the past few years, and now with record high fuel prices and record high inflation, ( with no end in sight) nothing can be compared to what prices were being charged 12 months ago... shop around for the next couple of months and be prepared to find your best deal this winter... stocks of RV's are up at dealerships all over the country, and used units have started to show up again on the market... it is going to a buyers market IMHO

don't be afraid to let dealer know you are shopping around...

I phoned a dealer and while talking to them
said I was looking at another unit at a another dealer FIRST then will come over.
(quoted other dealers model and price)

Salesperson asked what will it take to get me to come over their place first?
Got a price reduction that matched other dealer while on the phone

Then talked them down some more while at the dealership.

BTW ... waited until end of month as well. They are more willing to drop prices if they need to make their sales numbers for the month

The only way to find out is to do your "Due Diligence". Check that rig out from stem to stern, with a fine tooth comb. Caveat Emptor.

Where is this trailer located at? Makes a big difference, especially because you live on the West Coast. Midwest prices are generally always much cheaper.
It would help if you posted what dealer had the low price or at least tell us what area they are in.
Since I'm out West, I've seen Midwest dealers selling the model we're considering, for $30k cheaper than Western dealers.

Off topic, but I have ask...

Is your name pronounced the standard way as "lemon jello" or the fancy way as "le-MON-zhello?

Also do you have a brother named Orangejello pronounced as "a-RON-zhello" ?

I heard that story from a teacher friend. Kind of like Female (Fem-ah-lee) cuz the hospital already named her.

Drive around and it will amaze you how many RV's are "piling up" on lots that this time last year were essentially empty!.... My guess is December 26th-31st will be a TARGET RICH shopping experience for anyone looking for a steal/deal!!

I had to chuckle as I'm thinking of the Comedian, known as "Shirley Q Liquor", from Mississippi.

Lemonjello and Orangejello were 2 of the kids named in one of the comedic skits. Loved "Shirley Q".

Good luck.

List prices are changing all over. And then there are options.

In the past you easily could get 30% off list.

Today, you are on your own.

We used the discounter Couch rv in Hamilton. Talk to them maybe.

The market is sort of crazy right now.

Call me jaded, but NO vehicle seller, be they RV, auto or motorcycle, will offer to take $1000s less than a fair price simply because they're going to "honor" a mistake they made in an advertisement.

So, yes, it's a sales tactic. Only your research can tell you what a fair price is. They're not legally obligated to sell it for the advertised price. So, again, they're not going to voluntarily lose $1000s.

This is an "arm's length transaction". They're not doing you a "favor".

Can't say WITHOUT knowing the details. Are there dealer added options? Have you had it PROFESSIONALLY inspected etc, etc, etc. Small changes in specifications can have a BIG impact on the price. Also, we're pretty much out of the 2022 RVing season. Ther will be dealers who want to "clear the lot" so they don't have to carry expensive inventory.

There's an old wise saying...if it's too good to be true, be VERY wary. (I know that's why you posted on the forum.)
