Camping World quotes
Hey everyone,
We want to a local RV show that was hosted by CW. At the show they had a kiosk (think it was Good Sam) that would give a quote of current RV. So we got a value of $12,300 on our 2020 Starcraft (which seems in line with JD Power).
Went to a local non-CW dealer looking at a leftover 2022 model - was quoted a trade-in value of $9000. Now we see that CW a few hours away has the same model with a slightly higher price.
Just wondering how well they do with price matching? I told them how much the local non-CW is selling for, but didn't indicate the trade value the non-CW place gave us.
Would much rather prefer to buy at non-CW dealer as I've heard how bad CW can be, but obviously also wanting to get the best deal I can. Obviously I can go back to the local dealer and try and get them to match CW, but not sure how easy that will be either lol.

Once they see your RV in person expect them to start nickel and diming the price down. Their final offer will also depend on how good of a deal you got. If you haggle the price of the new one down, they'll just reduce the offer on your trade in. They know exactly what they're doing. Their goal is to maximize their profit at your expense, not save you money.

Camping World........Stay Away, Run as fast as you can. Make sure to view the customer camping world videos on Youtube on the extras they charge without you knowing. Wingman Wisdom on youtube is a good place to start.

Trade-ins are a shell game the dealer always wins. Think about it. Would they do it if it didn't benefit them (not you)?
Just 'cuz you can insure it for $12,500 doesn't mean you can sell it for that.
What you want is the lowest cost to you. Ignore the meaningless numbers like the trailer's price and the trade in offer. Only thing important is the out the door price after all blue smoke dissipates. Include any tax advantages in a outright sale vs trade-in scenario. Don't forget the massive and insidious dealer prep and "documents" charges dealers want.

If you get 'swindled' at a CW, chances are, you will be swindled anywhere else. You only pay for unknown charges when you are not alert enough to identify them and refuse to pay them. When buying anything, it is on you if you pay for extras you didn't agree to. Nobody is forcing you to sign the dotted line....
CW can be as good or bad as any dealer in buying RVs from. You have to be a savvy buyer with any of them.
But would I take a purchased RV back to any CW or other dealer for any kind of repair work, including warranty? Never.

Very True NM, the point is to get yourself smart on the details before going in. I guess I shouldn't throw a blanket over every store. But after spending years watching the sad stories of CW customers and news stations reports on them, nah... wouldn't find me anywhere near purchasing an RV from them. I will admit i have to purchase some HW that they only carry every now and then.

Yep exactly...the quote we got from the local dealer is very up-front with no hidden fees (other than a standard $100 doc fee that I'm OK with). I'd honestly prefer to purchase from them as the sales guy was very easy to talk with, zero pressure and when I mentioned that we have our own financing through CU he said that will probably be our best rate (although did ask if they can try and match or beat it lol).
Just disappointed on the trade value. Not sure how accurate the JD Power numbers but I know it was showing quite a bit higher (although their website has been up/down today so I can't get back in and check again).
Fortunately we're not in any kind of hurry - if the numbers aren't there we'll just be happy with our current camper TT...

Anyone know how accurate the JD Power values actually are?
It's showing a low retail of $12,500 and average of $15,050 for our TT.
Good Sam quoted a value of $12,300
That's sort of why I thought $9,000 was a bit low.

its a vicious circle for RV's, Right now the prices are falling on new RV's and the Used dealers are over stocked with the COVID returns. Your used one will sit on their lot longer and will most likely go to auction sooner. I would would try selling yourself first. You could give them the report and knowing the sales people and the managers, they will make every excuse in the world why they cant give you the used quotes. I spend a lot of time scoping out the used lots here out side of Fort worth and they are slow to move stuff right now. Fuel prices, Interest rates, insurance, storge fees all up substantially.

Wish we could sell it ourselves but it's stored up on a storage lot about 30 minutes from us so showing it is a royal PITA. Plus we are in a state where we would save taxes on the trade-in value so that does help somewhat.

Good luck to you,, I know its difficult to hold back when you find the one you really want, god knows I've done it before. stick to your guns as long as you can, walk out a few times if you have too. I drove my last used dealer crazy until he matched my terms.

Retail is how much you would expect to pay if you found a used one at a dealer.
Not how much they will pay you for yours as a trade-in. $9000 is probably about right. That would assume if they did turn around and sell it for $12,500 to another person they would make a profit of $3500. Minus whatever costs they incurred prepping it for sale.

And CW just got back to us with their quote - what a crock of BS lol!
Sure, they gave us $12,300 for our trade, but are charging the following:
$795 Freight
$395 Prep
$299 "One Batteries" (WTF is that?!)

Probably the battery for the trailer. Some dealers charge extra for it. Some just include it in the selling price.

Nope, got to love the prep....I would hire an inspector also if you can afford it.

Sleep on it, have them give you the quote, study it, look over all the charges... look at reviews and maybe Youtube blogs on the model you like. take your time, Prices are falling and you may find another just as good.

Funny thing is I'm pretty sure this model actually comes with the battery from the factory (because it also comes with basic solar to maintain the battery). There's a really good YouTube RV sales channel out there and I recall the guy saying don't let them charge you for the battery since it comes with it.

Is there an inventory sheet that came with it, can you contact the manufacturer ?

Apparently you never posted make and model number of the RV you're looking at. So can't answer your questions because all we know is that it's a leftover 2022 model.
