Insurance
Hello, I've found Progressive insurance on our trailers the best value and price. Most regular insurance companies charge way to much for RV's. I'm sure others will have other insurance they like, but we've always end up with Progressive.

You didn't mention the value of your trailer, obviously a huge factor. At that premium, it had better be at least a 100k trailer. I went with Progressive based on feedback on this forum.

My insurance, with Good Sam, went up $800 per year to $1,700 and they said it was because my new Cardinal fiver has a list price of $116,000. The Wildcat had a list price of $67,000. Full replacement cost.

Full replacement cost I don’t believe is based on RETAIL as you have quoted. Much more likely would be about 80% of retail or so since that is commonly what they are sold for. But I had Good Sam insurance for three years. After a 25% rate hike after the first year and a 40% increase the second year and a proposed hike of 350% the next year...I ran from them and never looked back.

Cost of insurance
Hi, we have a 2018 Surveyor 243RBS and just renewed our policy with Progressive for $403. No other vehicles insured through them.

Replacement cost is what you can buy a new one for. I paid $68,000 for my 2018 Cardinal 3825 FL. The msrp was $116,00.

$140/year for my $19K Coachmen in my sig through USAA. $1,000 deductible. Same liability on all my vehicles which is $1 million. This is directly through USAA and not Progressive.

AAA coverage on my Surveyor is $68 annually. That is only for collision and comprehensive...my tow vehicle covers the liability.

Progressive seems to be very popular. I would also want replacement value on which ever carrier you use.

How are you adding an RV policy directly through USAA? Every time I try to add our Fifth wheel they send me directly to Progressive. I've tried online, and over the phone.

Can't do it on online... phone only.. Make sure they understand that its a trailer and not an RV with a motor.

I'll have to call back. I spoke with them over the phone today. I made it clear it was a trailer, not a powered unit. The Progressive agent said it was a newee policy that Progressive writes all of the RV policies for USAA. I'm not sure if I believe that. As our previous TT was insured directly with USAA.

They told me that when I first contacted them and had progressive for one year. I made sure I spoke to someone who knew better the following year.

Thank you for your help, I called USAA back, and spoke to a more knowledgeable employee. I was able to get insurance directly through USAA for half the price of what Progressive was charging.

That's great! I experienced the same savings from switching from Progressive.
Plus USAA is such a much better insurance company to deal with than Progressive.

Do you have to have other vehicles insured through USAA to insure a trailer? I signed up with Progressive when I bought the trailer. Most my other vehicles are through NJM, which I really like and don't want to switch from.

I pay $95.00 a year for my $19k Flagstaff 23LB through USAA ($1k deductible). I originally had trailer insurance with USAA until I purchased a new camper and when I went to add it, their web-site took me to Progressive. I then had Progressive for a few years before I applied for an umbrella policy. At that time they told me I had to have the trailer insured by them as well for the umbrella policy (I already had auto and homeowners with USAA). I told the agent how I got switched from them and all she said was I needed to call to get the coverage. I then sent USAA an email to point out that their web-site is sending tow-behind trailers to Progressive, not just motorized RVs. They sent me a reply saying that they will look into it. That was eight years ago. My assessment is that they are not all that interested in insuring trailers.
