Might take a long time for that to happen. A lot of rails have been pulled up and converted to fence posts. Right of ways have been abandoned and turned into bike or hiking trails.
Ever hear of rail sidings? Back in the day factories and distribution warehouses had them. The only place trucks were used was for local delivery.
Never quite understood why everything moved to trucks. Numerous trucks out on the Interstate hauling goods from the same source to the same destination. Multiple trucks because one can't carry the whole shipment while rail cars could. Somewhere along the line speed from factory to consumer has become more important than efficiency. A small crew operating a 100+ car train can move how many truckloads of freight over the same distance?????
The only reason you see some rail lines removed is they are no longer efficient or mergers with other RR have cause duplicate line. So no longer needed. A lot of container are moved by train. New container terminals are being built to cut the distance truck move the containers. Just opened one up in North GA in the middle of nowhere per say. Will serve Chattanooga and Knoxville. Rail is cheaper to move goods and will continue. A 100 car piggy back train can carry 200 trailers. Same with container train. Locomotives now days are more fuel efficient also. If the price of diesel goes up more rail traffic. Later RJD

Is it 2020? The article was written 4 months ago. alot has sailed since and much more will before then. Why worry? be happy! (unless your the dummy with a diesel vehicle)
I am going to get a off lease Tesla tractor just like dbler has done to to my Fiver. Throw a electric Smart car on the back. Free power at parks !! What could be cheaper.
Interesting article, albeit from one source. What caught my eye is that the International Maritime Organization rules for cleaner diesel on ships kicks in in the year 2020. This may raise the price of diesel substantially.
Please do not turn my post into a political discussion. You are welcome to start your own post on the political or environmental aspects of the issue, but please don't use my post to do it. Thank you.
Well if it does it does. We are still going to enjoy our Class C diesel and keep on camping..... I know it might impact those with diesel pushers and large fuel tanks more.
Personally I believe it is fake news, they predicted gas prices would stay above $5 a gallon just a few years back. If it happens gas prices will be close to the same.
By the way chicken little says that the sky is falling.................
does it really matter, everyone will still stick the nozzle in the tank and fillerup…. plus I burn gas so I really can't see it from my front door....MY main concern is how my income is being outpaced by inflation, so everything is costing me more...and 'yes' I had to go there...
