Don't buy an RV

I get what he is saying. He has been saying this for a least two years.

I bought a RV anyway. I did not buy mine as an investment, I just hate sleeping on the ground.

If this makes any one want to sell their RV post it on the classified forum. I am looking to upgrade.

If I wasn't mechanically inclined, I would not own an RV. They require TLC and adjustments from time to time.

X2. We love our RV, but there have been several moments I was willing to just give it away I figure they are like horses: just a hobby to throw time and money at for the sheer pleasure of enjoying them. Plus, I think of all the wonderful lifelong friends we have met while on the road... and it's all worth it.

You definitely don't buy them for a worthwhile monetary investment

You can't warranty, lemon law or put a price tag on family time, enjoying yourself or making friends.

I watched 2 minutes of that garbage, that was enough. I have owned 4 campers because I like them. Can't put a value on the experiences we have had and time spent with family and friends.

If you listened to all the experts on every topic you would never do anything.

I have been in 48 states in our RV's. Two of my Grandkids have been with us in 42 states in our RV's

I could never put a value in $$$ on that. But any issues I had with the RV's is far far outweighed by our family experiences on these trips. These trips are discussed almost any time the family get together.

Great public service announcement for anyone thinking of buying an RV. Can’t put a price tag on the truth. In fact anyone buying their first RV should be required to watch it. This may counterbalance all the BS that their salesperson just filled them with.

Igray, exactly the point "Don't buy an RV" grabs attention; some cant get past the title and completely miss the point ... he points out that if you do buy, and he knows we will, be highly educated and don't go in with false expectations ... know what you are signing .. the law is not your friend.

I listened to the whole video. Lots of repeats, lots of inexperienced buyers, lots of I hate RV input. I agree that people who buy unknowing are most likely in a fix, but given knowledge and understanding most people are prepared for some of what he says. One thing I kept waiting for was component issues. He only mentioned chassis, driveline and coach not the systems. They are where the real problems come from.

I know a little about RV stuff. A friend owns a large 5er and I wouldn't want it. Too much crap on there. Under the belly are valves, electric boxes and switches that scare me an I know a tiny bit.

I guess I'll sell my new big honking fiver. Sigh. And my three trucks.

And my big old boat. And my 1 year old side by side. And my utility trailer. And my guns and my fishing rods and my knives.

Except for one knife. I'll need that to sit on front porch and whittle.

If it's a fire sale. I'm might be interested in helping you get to your knife carvings sooner.

Sure. Everything I own is always on sale for only twice what it's worth new.

I get what everyone is saying. And all are good points. My question is, what did this guy say that wasn't true? You see it here every day. Front caps that fade to bumpers that fall off. Roofs that leak to cheap tires that blow. And by all means lets not forget delamination. And everything in between. It's all right here on this forum. My take away from what this guy is saying. If you want to own an RV go into it with your eyes wide open.

We need a thumbs up emoticon.

I know I will fix something everytime I come back from an RV outing (10 times this year for 35 days). I know I will fix the thing I forgot to fix right before I leave on the next RV excursion. I know I will fix the thing that broke while traveling when I get there (Dang sliding door!). And then I know I will eventually have to fight with the dealer for something major for which I can't parts.

But all of that will afford me the ability to vacation with my wife and dog where my son is stationed as a Coastie without intruding on them and without the hotel hassles. I will get to relax by a fire on a fall night or hide in airconditioned comfort on a hot night. No bugs crawling in a tent, no hard ground for my old body.

So its a price I'm willing to pay, but I'm real glad that I went into it with my eyes wide open.

I did enough research before we purchased to know that we are buying into a life style that comes with inherent risks. I don't need anyone to tell me that campers are temperamental. If someone tied me to a bumper and dragged me around I might have a few issues too.

So many of us know this already before we buy, but, we want the experience and enjoyment that can comes with owning a RV. We know that we are potentially buying a toy that should have a warning saying "Some Assembly may BE Required" it can be frustrating but we live in hope!
