Estimate Value of Contents.......??

What is your best guess as to the monetary value of the contents of your TT?

Got VIN number today for TT being built.........will have to acquire insurance soon. Insurance I have chosen asks for a number (a drop down list, multiple choice) of "Value of Contents". It is not like most, where contents are a percentage of something. I can pick any value ( and premium goes up/down accordingly).

Based on what I pulled out of the 26DBH when we sold it, I'd guess seventeen million dollars. But I could be high!

What is you guys' best guess as to the value of what is inside the TT?

If I had to guess on our seasonal/permanent site, our 5th wheel probably has a $5,000 or there abouts of junk.
Between the dishes, kids toys, misc. crap, fishing poles, tackle box, chairs.....now this would be if i had to go and buy all of this new.
Just my ballpark figure. If we went on the road with it, that figure would probably go up.

We just got a new on this year too and I agree with the the 17 million. I would bet $10k in ours. We are a family of four.

Are you a weekend - week camper? Extended trips? Fulltiming?

Do you carry jewelry when you go? Any/many laptops? What about other electronics? How many upgrades will you do- surge protector, fancy regulator, generator, etc?

I think we went for $15-20k but we are fulltiming.

It is my understanding that many insurance companies limit the contents to $3,000 coverage? That is the limit on mine and I don't know if you can pay for more?

I think that's a base limit. I'm sure you can always add more for a higher premium. I'm not positive, but figuring just what's in my basement storage, odds and ends inside, I probably would be covered with the 3K. I try to leave laptop at home. All we need are 2 sets of clothes and a pair of flip flops each, and we're good!

Depends on the insurance plan. When I covered my trailer as a rider under my truck, there were a lot of limits. But when I got trailer-specific insurance, it opened up a lot of doors.

I will stay, both Allstate and State Farm basically said, "lol, you can't do that" when I described RV insurance. But RV insurance companies had different policies that let you better protect your camper.

Progressive has a specific question for this........and a drop down box. It goes in $5K increments to........well, a lot! I am sure that you have to prove value of contents destroyed in fire, regardless.......or I assume you do.

We are not full time. We will have laptops, of course (gotta pay the bills even if on the road). Normal clothes, cooking boorah, fishing boorah, EMS, this, that.....

Just have no real idea. My best guess is $10,000. I would just have to live with the assumption any loss over that is my responsibility. It'd have to be something odd to get that high, but it's feasible I guess.

I believe awnings are also covered under the contents portion of the insurance. Include that value also.

Our insurance policy says usual contents to a motorhome $ 5,000. As we are fulltiming we added "additional content" $ 20'000. So we are now at $ 25'000 which might not even cover everything if the motorhome burns out and you have to buy everything.
Just think about cloths, shoes, bedding, dishes, pots, pans, cutlery, TV(s), computer(s), CD, mp3 players, satellite and/or TV installation, ladder, tools, boxes, bicycle rack, bicycles, and all the little things you have in your storage like multimeter, bicycle repair kit, screws, clamps, sewer hose adapters, extension cords, bungee cords and straps, bucket, water hoses, connections, spray nozzles, filters, and so on ...

My insurance defaulted to 5k with option to go higher for more coverage. From recent storage post, would include cost of battery and filled propane tanks. Defaulted electronics include tv (I have two), Pathways satellite antenna? ice maker, laptop and or iPad when camping. Then we occasionally have to leave rescue pup who would let the trailer be stolen for a belly rub! Maybe 5k is not enough!!!

I think the best thing you can do is walk around your house and right down all the things in your home that would need to be replaced if some disaster happen (tv, computers, dishes, sheets, towels etc etc) and come up with a figure.
People need to understand when it comes to insurance and rving, it is a HOUSE on wheels, so it will be the same costs!

Next time you give the trailer a good spring cleaning, get a digital camera and take pictures of all the stuff in there. Put the pics on a CD and store it someplace safe.

Not a bad idea for the stick house, storage locker, whatever.

But honestly it depends on the trip and the amount of cameras, music instruments, radio equipment and laptops we take on that particular trip.Could be $6000.

This thread got me thinking and we tried to do an honest inventory. We recently retired and we are somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 fulltime. Electronics and generators took us to 5K easy. Then we figured around another 5k for clothes, pots/pans, and all the camping essentials. So we upped our content coverage to 10k and think that should do it. We are keeping our fingers crossed!!!
