Extended Service Plans

Are there any good plans out there? This is for a New trailer that we want to leave on site at the campgrounds.

The number of plans are as varied as RV models! Wholesale Warranties have a couple of good plans. The cost and which ones you can get seems to depend on the salesperson you get. Some dealers have decent plans. You want to make sure you get an exclusionary plan (one that specifically lists what ISN'T included), vice a plan that lists what is included. The exclusionary plans tend to cover more.

The next biggest item is the number of repair locations. Some limit you to specific dealers/repair places. Others will let you go anywhere or even mobile repair companies, as long as they have a valid business license. You need to ask the sales person a lot of questions to make sure you are happy with what you are getting.

You will get a million views on this...almost so many that you are no better off than when you started. Get ready for the arguments about is it a good idea to even get one or not. That is the first thing you need to decide...do I want the piece of mind, that most things are covered (even though the repair may take quite a while), or do I want to stash the money that I would spend on it and insure myself.

Good luck!

If you have a new FR RV, you have the option of extending your new RV Warranty for another year at minimal cost. This is what we did when we had our Rockwood 5th wheel

Coachmen products do not qualify for the 2nd year FR factory warranty.
Neither does PrimeTime, Dynamax, Shasta or Viking.

The other thing to check for is whether or not things damaged by the initial problem are covered. For example something leaks that is covered and the water damages something else does that get fixed as well.

I know we almost didn't take the one we were offered when the wife found the clause that says they are off the hook in case of nuclear detonation. Yep, that was actually in there like the camper will be what we are worried about in that case....

I brought a extended warranty from Camping World that isn't worth the paper it's written on. Camping World had just brought out Tom Johnson and they suckered me in. Forest River second year warranty is the best

Thanks,

I was considering Camping World. For $400-$500. a year, for crap. I'll save the $2500 and take my chances.

Try Coach Net - that is who underwrites the Forest River 1 & 2 year warranties

If I was going to leave it sit I would personally not buy one. Not that much that will go wrong while sitting during 5 years. They sell the plans to make money...if they lost money they wouldn't sell them.

Hi Bob,
I called FR diesel division asking about the 2nd year option and they said there was nothing like this. It looks to be a option for non motorized vehicles. If you were able to get this on your RV please let me know how.

Thanks

The 2nd year FR factory warranty is not available on motorized units, only towables.

Bama Bob was replying to the OP who has a trailer, not a Motorhome.

And even the 2nd year warranty is no longer available. Bummer too, for $150-$250 you could have the same 2 year warranty as some of the competitor's standard warranty.
