The advantages of having a monopoly on a necessity. It's interesting, I was in Bahrain or Dubai, I can't remember which, like 10 years ago. I was in a taxi. The driver told me, "Gasoline here is cheaper than water." It was because 100% of their water supply came from desalination plants on the coast.

I would say that if one found themselves having to purchase fuel in Furnace Creek, and didn't live there, they certainly failed to plan correctly.
I'd make darn sure I had enough fuel to make it out of town and on to maybe the AZ state line where fuel prices are a lot more sane.

At a minimum definitely do not fill the tank there. If 5 gallons will get you to the next gas station, then buy 5 gallons max at the gas station. I remember in my childhood days in California there was 1 single gas station that was like 200 miles from any other gas station and they had the same price gouging monopoly.

Holding steady in my area 5:15 with the caveat that I live in small town 30 miles from interstate 45 from city. Between oil field and sand boom seeing 2- 2500 semis a day plus the normal well service and production trucks carrying the crews etc. So 95% of our fuel buying customers paying with company money. When I drive to Odessa it’s between 4:59 and 5:15( on the interstate)

May 1 starts the transition to summer blend gas, so expect prices to go up another 15 cents.

Try .30 cents! Gas WAS $3.89 two weeks ago and is now $4.19 in Wisconsin. Across the border in Hellinois it is $4.89, up .50 from 3 weeks ago.

Just paid $90 to fill up a just over half full tank on Tuesday. Paid $5.39 a gallon here.

Yep. That was Furnace Creek. Was just there last week on a trip to Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Vegas, then home. Most I paid was $6.40 somewhere in AZ (can't remember exactly, but it was a Mobil station). Most diesel was running ~$5.60, and was generally $1.00 to $1.50 more than regular gas.
