I drove by a Pilot and a Flying J yesterday, within 50 miles of home. One was $2.69 credit ($2.65 cash, dang 'em) for diesel and the other was $2.54.

Pulling off the interstate at my home exit, I paid $2.29........which was same at any of 8 stations near by.

Do you think those traveling the interstate would be aware of those stations, how far off, and if they could pull in / get out towing 30' - 40'?
With their cc the difference is 6 cents on diesel ~~ I'll happily pay for the convenience.

You are right about the peanut butter, but you are missing there other services, The Eye Glass and Hearing Aid departments are highly rated and very well priced. They have earned my tire business and have a Auto purchase program. Oh, did I mention there ongoing selection of King Crab Legs!

You might want to rethink that request.

FJ is convenient but I just fuel wherever. Generally much cheaper elsewhere.

Eye glasses and hearing aids are provided by the VA ~ going to take off a cataract this summer too, darn. LA South Auto & Tire Shallotte NC beats their tire prices and are only 2 miles from home, not 27. When LARGE crab legs arrive from Russia I get a call from a sea food distributer in North Myrtle Beach ~~~ if you search comparable products and prices are easily found. Found a better deal on 2 tv sets at Best Buy. Used to get 28 steaks there for the summer cookout ~ and they were good~ but with a 3 day notice the local butcher will meet or beat their price on that volume for FRESH product. They do have good gas prices which does nothing for my diesel truck. I'm not knocking them, they are great for families that can use the 86# of peanut butter and 17# of breakfast food.

I am honored that I continue to pay for your healthcare and mine, when you drive around in a $65,000 vehicle. Yes I am a vet.

And I do not whine about the damage to my body during 2 tours in Nam either. You may find it interesting Ford has a program for disabled vets too.

I can back it quite well.

I just can't get all the traffic in the road to stop, and all the 'little guys' behind me that I have blocked to stop honking their horns. If YOU drive, I can just point my finger! LOL

I got the Pilot CC mainly because there is no limit at the pump. (Yes you do have to pay it off monthly). Got tired of the $75 limit on the other major CCs. My truck would take over a $100 per fill up when the diesel prices were high and I would hit the $75 CC limit, re swipe the card and finish filling up. PIA
With the Pilot CC I get the .08/gal. discount on diesel plus I can fill up with no limit. Second reason I use Pilot wile traveling is the easy in and out at the pumps. I am no good at backing up my FW, so pulling straight through at the truck lanes is priceless for me. If I am staying at a CC for a few days I will use Gas Buddy to find the cheapest price and fill up without my FW attached. When on the interstate I only stop at Pilot due to the reasons stated above. Not interested in driving the city streets looking for a cheaper price and then finding I can't pull my rig up to the pumps.

Good point..............but it's funny to me that the same credit card will hit the $75.00 limit at SOME stations, and the sign says "Not our fault, call your credit card company", and the next two stations it goes to $90 just fine...........

I realize this started as a Good Sam/Flying J thread, but there's been enough sidetracks that I'll add this:
Just returned from the local Sunoco. Regular priced at $2.399 Gal.. I had a .60 per Gal discount from the supermarket good for up to 20 Gal. Full price would have been $47.98. With my discount final price was $35.98 for a $12 savings. This is huge for a cheapskate like me.
Before anyone says the supermarket got the difference out of me on the groceries, the discount was for spending over $75 and they had bone-in angus prime rib on sale for $5.99 a pound. This is so good for around here that I bought 2. This was a rare win-win for me where I won on both ends.

To each his own but my Silverado holds 36 gallons and I have a 100 gallon tank in the bed of truck with a 12 volt pump and that's why I don't stop at the truck stops plus they are higher in price. I save 5% off at the pump and I can go for two days or more without filling up plus I can stop at a rest area and use the bathroom and get a snack and fill up the truck and be on my way in 15 minutes. I only drive 300 to 400 miles a day so when I stop I'm usually a ways off the interstate. Works for me

I have the Good Sam Eleat and I would get the 9 cents off per gallon but I just drove by the Flying J and it is $2.45 per gallon and there are two stations in the area that have diesel for $2.17, Kroger and Murphy.

Yep, for at least the past year, ALL truckstops in our region are 25 to 40 cents a gallon more than in town. That's why we only use them for the convenience when we are towing.
