Regular Self Serve is $3.38 at Murphy's (Wal Mart) today and Diesel is $3.58.

I saw the start of the oil boom in Midland-Odessa Texas in the 1980's and I saw the oil bust later there also. When the boom started, immigrant workers were living in cardboard boxes under the overpasses because there no housing for them and when the boom busted they were back there again trying to hitch a ride back to Detroit.

I think that U-Haul placed a surcharge on their trucks that destined for Midland -Odessa because there were so many there it drained the system of available trucks for the rest of the country.

Traffic has become a nightmare and there is no such thing as a quick bite out even at fast food wakt usually runs 30 minutes, as most of the population boom is men here without families and they live in motels, crew camps or RV's.

About the same things changed during the 1980's in Midland -Odessa, luckily I was living in Lubbock during the period and the boom didn't reach Lubbock.

The Midland- Odessa area was totally unprepared for the influx of oil field workers that flooded the area - not enough adequate housing, public facilities, etc.

Then went things when boom, the reverse happened but I think the ecomony is coming back in the area.

There was a saying going around there during the oil boom and oil shortages in other parts of the country that went something like "Keep the oil here and freeze a Yankee"

Here in west central Wisconsin gas has been $3.96 for gas, for the last 10 days or so. Last night I went past the gas station and it dropped to $3.89. Diesel has been steady at $3.89 for probably the last 2 months.

The local news did a story about the gas price rise last week, in the story they said the reason was because an oil refinery in the Chicago area was shut down for maintenance. Just funny that the refinery is shut down just before a big travel weekend....

do me a favor and don't change oil or do any maintenance on your vehicles. then see how long it lasts. those of us in the refining business know what is happening. it is time to do some maintenance. if you don't know, don't comment. by the way, it is the speculators that help drive the price. follow the commodity market and you'll see that oil trades like lobster....market value. who dictates market value? supply and demand. BUT, speculators throw in their 2 cents and it drives it one way or the other. THEN, there's the retailer, the convenience stores who have the gas pumps, watch their prices AND the commodity market. bet your blood pressure goes up then. watch it and educate yourself. . oh yeah, have a great day

Yeah, the market is supposed to react to supply and demand. However, that does not seem to be anymore. Demand in this country is dropping as we become more energy conscious, but the prices keep rising. I find it hard to believe that one refinery shutting down before the start of the summer driving season should impact prices nation wide. I do believe a company such as Exon Mobile and their obscene profits has much more to do with pricing. We are like sheep being led by the shephard aka the news media as the mouth piece of an industry full of deception and political influence.

ok, let's back up here a minute...in 2008-2009, a report came out and showed the top money makers at the time....guess what, BIG OIL was 7th place. i am offended by your term of "obscene profits". that year, pharmaceuticals, beverage companies, bottled water companies, walmart, and snack food companies made more than BIG OIL! WOW, our profits are obscene? big oil was dwarfed by pharmaceutical companies' profits. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I SEE IS THIS: YOU AND ME DON'T BUY ORANGE JUICE, SODA POP AND ASPIRIN BY THE BULK....ONLY FUEL WE BUY IN BULK. refineries don't shutdown unless of a catastrophic event or something major like that. retailers and speculators ride the profit wave as long as they can...i'm serious, just watch the pump price and the commodity price for a month. you should be outraged!

Down the street, it's 3.29. In Sarasota, near I-75 it was 3.54. Can someone say rip-off?
