Insurance while traveling thru Canada

we're planning a trip thru Canada this year.
Are there insurance issues that need our attention, for the RV or Auto?
probably should just consult our Ins companies

Thanks

Yes, just contact your insurance company(s) and ask. All I had to do in my case for vehicle insurance was request a special insurance card for Canada.

If interested, I just asked a similar question, but for all needs to cross border.
Check it out at - https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...ip-201227.html

Please do not try to enter Canada with any firearms, without going through the Canadian Firearms Centre.
1-800-731-4000 and follow the prompts
Canadian firearm laws are very strict and there is no CCW.

Checked with the Canadian authorities prior to our 2016 trip thru Canada to Alaska. Pistols with a 4" barrel or longer may be transported thru Canada with the proper forms approved to show at the border. Very strict rules to trnsport pistols thru Canada. Barrels shorter than 4" are forbidden period.

I just asked USAA this very question for a family member.

The answer for us was "she is covered. Just make sure she has a current insurance card in the vehicle."

I'd also check if any warranty you have on the vehicles will be valid. And if so, are there limitations to where it can be done.

I would imagine you would not have any issues with the big three. My truck spent a week at a Ford dealer in Goshen (CDN Dealer service issue not Ford). They covered warranty replacement of my head gasket.

In Canada just about all brands are available. Rural areas may have some issues with dealers and involve towing, AAA or in CAA is national and after the GM collapse they closed 2/3 of dealers around my area. Harder to get service.

OnStar may not work up here as the Cell Network may not be the same between Canada and US frequencies.

I asked my American Family Insurance agent for a Inter-Provincial Insurance Card. They had never heard of it so I informed them that they needed to contact the home office about it. Half an hour later I had my card and was on my way. I hate having to do the agent's job.

I've been through Canada over a dozen times in the past six years and have never needed anything more than my regular insurance card. It's not like going to Mexico.

Having the Canadian insurance card from my insurance company saved my butt a few years ago. I backed my Class C into a pickup truck in a CG. The pickup owner was a real A Hole and demanded I pay him cash immediately for the minor damage. The RCMP were called, took one look at my insurance card and told the guy basically to shut up as I had proof of insurance. Without the card it could have been a mess.

I am on Medicare through United Healthcare Advantage Plan
It is considered their World Wide Coverage which I found no information on it until I called the insurance member service direct.
Information I received after calling them direct was
1) They will cover life or death emergencies at an ER along with transport to hospital in this instance.
2) Urgent Care will be covered for immediate health problems, non-emergency, as a walk in service.
3)They will not cover any transport from Canada to USA

Good Luck
Safe Travels
