New RV Prices Are Still Falling!

It is becoming a buyers market if you need a new RV. I just saw some bargain prices on 2022 and even 2023 5th wheel toy-haulers. We have been considering upgrading for awhile and its getting harder to resist some of these discounted new units. What do you guys say?

Just looked at camping world near us, they have a 22 Forest River Wildcat 369mbl for $66k on sale from $96,563 at 42.5 feet. Back in Sept. this same 5th wheel was on sale for $3k more making it $69k, so has gone down some; (we currently have an 17 Forest River Wildcat 38mbx at 41.5')

For us we would get roughly $37K for our wildcat from a dealer (alpin haus) got that written in email from them. Put that towards $66k, leaves roughly $29k at roughly $323 per month in payments for 10 years. Add taxes and fees and new rv insurance which probably be higher than now since the new rv would not be fully paid off. Also add the hassle of switching into the new 5th wheel from current one and anything extra that pops up.

For us, even with these "better prices" its not worth it. One other BIG factor for us is the PIN weight of these new 5th wheels are too high for our 2015 RAM 2500HD 4x4 4door 6.7L Cummins. Be over weight. Total overall weight for the towing part is a-ok though, just the pin weight is too high on these newer ones. So then for new one for us plus have to trade in truck and get a 3500 with monthly payments cant afford it. We have $0 payments for truck and camper.

We have a family member with a Ram 2500 CTD and his yellow sticker payload capacity is 2149 lbs, that's how. Just like Ram half tons have a pitiful payload capacity, so do their 2500 diesels. And apparently their one ton dually also, as evidenced by that recent viral photo of one with a camper on it, with its backbone snapped.

With the P.I.T.I.F.U.L. quality of build of about any brand now days ... we're sticking with what we have. The bling and extra bells and whistles just don't cut it. Listen to new buyers out and about ... 80% of them are initially unhappy with what they traded for as far as quality of build. I guess we don't have a big enough can of money buried in the back yard as current prices are still just out of reach for us. When a manufacturer/dealer has inflated prices over the past couple of frenzied years to the current level, it will take more than 30% off msrp to reel alot of us in come the new year.

I don't understand (unless you HAVE to purchase now) why we keep accepting the low quality build we are getting from these mfgs. If we would all just stop buying and let them eat their junk and tell them why we quit buying, maybe things would change.
Maybe I have too much faith in the power of the dollar but I know they will not get another dime from me until things change. Automobile companies finally got the message. It's time for the RV mfgs. to get a wake up call.

That only happened because Japanese auto manufacturers were making better cars than the American Big Three.
That scenario won't happen with RVs.

I say that if you find the rig you want at the price you think is reasonable.... go for it.

Gee I dont know...maybe that the payload for my 2015 ram 2500hd 4x4 4dr with the 6.7L cummins is 2,360lbs. Max weight for the truck is a total of 10K pounds. Dry weight is 7,640lbs. Max trailer weight for towing is 17,180lbs.



Payload weight includes: passengers weight, diesel fuel, coolant, oil, cargo, pin weight/hitch weight of a trailer, 5th wheel rails, 5th wheel hitch itself, etc.



So you take the extra things that go on/in the truck plus the pin weight and at the end you'll need to be under the 2,360lbs for payload.



Now the weight of the trailer for towing it, isn't the problem with these newer 5th wheels, it's their pin weight like i mentioned all ready.



Another thing, some pin weights are even higher than the 2,135lbs from the 22 FR Wildcat 369mbl model too.



Now if ya had a gasser 2015 ram 2500hd 2wd, 2dr, 6.4hemi with 4.10 gear, then payload is: 3,790lbs and max trailer weight at 16,300lbs.



Same then for the diesel of 2wd, 2dr payload would be 3,170lbs and max trailer weight at 17,970lbs.


Gasser trucks always had a bit more in payload bc they dont have the added weight of the diesel, yet they suck for mpg, going up mtns, and so forth.



I'm 110% with diesels still.



Now I saw someone (AlaskaErik) on this thread also mentioned of that 3500 ram that had the truck camper in its bed and the truck basically split in 2. Thats because he was OVER on the damn weight limit. It's not that hard to read numbers, look up the towing charts from RAM directly. If I was Mopar and his insurance company I would NOT cover the truck for repairs since he had it over its limit. Should have been given ticket(s) too since he was over weight and there for unsafe. And it not RAM the brand of truck that make its a "crap" truck, it could have been any brand where that guy would still have went over in the payload weight limit. Even the article that covered it, the writer even mentioned at the end of it, hey maybe he shoulda just bought a 4500 or 5500 instead for that size of camper.

Oh another thing, my 5th wheels pin weight is around 1,400lbs, we have an anderson hitch so weighs like nothing compared to a traditional 5th wheel hitch so our camper is a great match to go with our ram 2500.

My 2018 Ram 3500 dually had a payload of around 5200, this was a Ram 3500 I would have grabbed a picture of the truck but the guy was checking on the cars. He didn’t seem to like me being nearby.

For me, falling (or rising) prices on new RV’s is a net sum zero game if you have an RV already. Used prices will tend to rise or fall with new.

To me, if tempted to replace an existing RV, the main “cost” is the time commitment and frustration that will come with rectifying the flaws and shortcomings of a newly built RV. Time can be more in short supply than money. Even if the new RV is easily affordable, dealing with the poor quality of a Made In America recreational vehicle is just not how I want to spend my time going forward.

Financing through an RV dealer seems to be outrageous. Over 8%. Most credit unions are in the 4% range but still higher than they were a year or so ago.

Just re-checked our Local Credit Union Rates once again. I'll keep what I have for now @ 5.45%. Rates are ridiculous.

yeah what credit union for 4%?

My old credit union back home currently is at 7.24% = STCU.

I'm also member of USAA bank and their is at 7.45%.

My main bank Chase does not offer loans for rvs and boats.

Wellspring Credit Union. Our RV was on a special rate of 2.99% but we went ahead and paid it off anyway early last year. According to their website, the current rate for RV's is 4.69%. We have always gotten a discount rate less than their advertised rate.



Our Mahindra 5570 diesel tractor is financed there for 2.99% (farm use).

I read a news article this morning that said RV sales are down 50% from this time last year. And I don’t think it will get better anytime soon.

That 4.69% is for 48 months, most people who take out rv loans dont take a loan out for 48 months, usually around 72-120 months then the rates goes up: 5.20% to 6.75% so can get high still...

Even good sam rv club loans are high, 6.37%

A local credit union here is offering 7% and if you do auto payments, drops to 6.75%.

BUT we dont have to worry about interest rates anyhow since we arnt planing to trade in and get new one. We paid ours off from day 1, no loan taken out, same with our truck.
