Tree damage totals our 2509s! Progressive insurance tale.

A week ago my wife was shocked to hear a huge impact sound outside! She came out to find a big tree limb had fallen on our 2018 Rockwood 2509s! Terrible news and right at the start of camping season. Thankfully nobody was hurt! We filed a claim with Progressive right away. We have total replacement coverage so I was hoping it would be declared "totaled".

The limb probably weighed close to 500lbs and fell 40 feet on to the back right quarter of the trailer over the bathroom. The damage was apparent from the outside and inside but goodness knows what hidden damage was done. The force of the impact knocked molding off of the walls all over the back half of the trailer.

Progressive sent an assessor out two days later and she was great to work with. We gave her copies of the bill of sale and showed her the damage. She agreed it was totaled and explained the options. At this time we also started working with a claims rep and someone at Progressive who deals with total replacement policies.

When the claim was confirmed, we went out to a dealership and found a new 2020 2509s and put down a small deposit. As of now, the claim rep and specialist are working with the dealership to iron out a sale on the replacement unit. We should only be responsible for the policy deductible at the end.

Progressive has been a dream to work with so far! I'll update you when we have the new trailer in hand. Hopefully we will still make our Fourth of July trip.

I highly recommend anyone who purchases a new camper also gets total replacement coverage for the first few years. It is worth the expense particularly if you are new to RVing.

I made a video of the experience if you are interested:

Sorry for your loss!! But happy you’re getting replacement soon. Take some extras from damaged TT for future repair materials. Curtain fabric, some molding pieces. A cabinet door. Door knobs. Largest piece of luan from cabinet side. An extra medicine cabinet would be awesome in your new bathroom. Just saying...

I don't think you're allowed to do that. When my daughter car was totaled, with 100 miles on the brand new transmission I installed, I was not allowed to remove that transmission. Was going to remove and resell it. Ins. company said...No-No-No. We gave you the money for the "entire" automobile and now WE own it.

There is sometimes a buy back option on totaled vehicles. when my brother totaled two cars, i asked the ins. person what i could take out, specifically spare tire and radio. he said it only had to have "a radio/spare tire", not necessarily the ones that were in it at the time of the crash.

see if you can buy it back, strip what you want, and sell it as a hunting shack.

We recently had to deal with Progressive, and I have to say it was a quick and easy progress. Took care of everything with one simple phone call. Can't say enough about their customer service. Good luck with the new trailer!

The only things I took out of the trailer were things I didn't add to the claim like the upgraded door locks, bike brackets, battery monitor, surge suppressor, etc. All things I put in. Guess I could have added them to the claim and repurchased...

The experience with Progressive was mostly great. However, we had to work with a third party because we were REPLACING the trailer. He tried to push us to use his preferred dealership instead of the one we like to work with. He also was a bit deceptive with the itemization of the final check. We reported his actions to Progressive.

Great news!
While I'm sure it seemed like an eternity, you now have a totally new R/V some 5 weeks after the accident.

Holy Oak, Batman! WOW.

We also have total brand new replacement coverage at MSRP with Progressive, first five years. Plus disappearing deductible. It ain't cheap. But it is big peace of mind, and I'm glad to read about it working out for folks.

Hope it all works out for you.

Same coverage and same "it ain't cheap". But the peace of mind is comforting.

Thanks to wcaterino for sharing your experience. This reinforces my decisions and gives me peace that if this poo ever hits the fan, I should be alright.
