As tempting as we know it will be--
DO NOT use this as an opportunity to bash one state or another. Or government in general.

The big question is what happens to the registration fees in future years? In Colorado, it drops off with the value of the car, so in a few years I am down to $100-$200 per year. Are some of the fees listed one-time only, or are they every year?
Another big question is what is the difference between registering a new and a one year old used vehicle.
Sales tax is sales tax, and varies by state - and in some states by city and county.
Really not enough information to say whether it is totally out of line with other states. And California has a reputation as a high tax state, even when I was living there 15 years ago.

Well...
$4,350 is sales tax. That's normal.
$391 license fee for new vehicle. That's normal too.
All in all, your registration looks to be about $631 for a $60,000 vehicle.
EDIT:
Also... This is a COMMERCIAL vehicle registration. Yeah... this is right in line.

I see that is listed as a commercial vehicle. Is that due to size or is it really being registered for commercial use. I think a lot of state charge higher fees for commercial use. I guess another question would be is it a one time fee or an annual? I wouldn't want to pay that every year, but I would probably pay it one time.

Commercial registrations are always higher.
Out of line?... I think not.

Not sure why I had to click on a waiver on an "emotional" issue to post to this thread.
I don't think the vehicle in question is a commercial vehicle by definition. I doubt you need a CDL to drive it based on the weight.
But for fun (!) and since it's lunch time I ran the California model checking Automobile rather than Commercial vehicle and it looks about the same from a dollar standpoint.
But it is what it is. Gotta pay to play.

In CO, the taxable value of the vehicle is 85% of the MSRP. Note that this is MSRP and has nothing to do with what you paid. Then, the registration percentage you pay of that taxable value is a sliding scale for the first 4 years of that vehicle's life at 2.1%, 1.5%, 1.2%, and 0.9%. For all other years, it is 0.45%. And, then, there is a flat registration fee that depends on county and vehicle type ... and can range between ~$70 - $120.
So, a $60,000 vehicle in CO will cost the following to register, assuming a $100 registration fee: - New: $1,171
- Y2: $865
- Y3: $712
- Y4: $559
- Y5+: $330
This doesn't include any other taxes and fees, such as bridge fees, road fees, and such. It also depends on how well the clerk sets up your MSRP, as I've tended to pay less than these figures based on my vehicles' actual MSRPs.
Here are the other registration fees: - Title Fee: $20
- Title Other Fee: $7.20
- Base: $3
- Clerk Hire: $4
- Motorist Insurance Database: $0.10
- Emergency Medical Services: $2
- Bridge Safety Surcharge: $23
- Road Safety Surcharge: $28
- County Road & Bridge: $1.50
- License Plate Material: $1.89
- Year Tab Material: $0.17
- Month Tab Material: $0.11
That's about $62 of recurring annual expenses on top of the other bits.
Anyway, that gives you a sense for how CO taxes private vehicles in terms of registration.
Sales tax is, of course, a one time payment at the time of purchase. In CO, we have state, county, city, and special taxes. When sales taxes get discussed, CO always looks good when compared to other states, because it has a state sales tax of 2.9% and that's as far as the top-level comparisons extend. Smoke and mirrors. Most people pay at least double that, due to the county/city/special sales taxes. Obviously, it varies quite a bit here. Where I live, I have no county or special taxes and low 2.5% city tax. So, I have an effective sales tax rate of 5.8% on my vehicle purchases. Drive 8 miles into Boulder County and the effective sales tax rate is about 9%.
Again, this isn't a complaint. It's just a data point for comparison purposes. Enjoy.

I noticed the GVWR was over 10,001 lbs so its not a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck....It's one of the reasons if you live in CA and you don't really need a larger truck it's going to cost you more for registration based on the GVWR your weight fee is more $$$.
A one ton truck is going to cost you more than a 3/4 ton and a 3/4 ton is going to cost you more than a 1/2 ton to register something to consider in the State of CA.

Those figures are for a one ton truck, since it would be used for towing it is commercial in CA, everything is annual except of course sales tax and the value of the vehicle does drop by their determination on just that one item. The legislature has already approved an increase in the fees that goes into effect later this year. The commercial aspect here is determined buy whether or not the truck has a bolted on camper. That would even apply to 1/2 ton.

It seems a bit high to me but not ridiculous... What would the taxes be on a non-commercial purchase?
Georgia charges a one time fee, the Title Ad Valorem Tax or TAVT, of 6.5% on vehicles. A $60,000 bottom line non-commercial purchase would cost you $3,900 in TAVT fees. Add another $50 or so for plates and other "stuff" and you're done. Annual renewals are $1.00...
One of the really "nice" thing about the TAVT is it is considered a Fee, not a Tax, so you can't write it off your taxes like the old sales tax and annual renewal fees... But we no longer pay a ridiculous renewal fee for plates every year, Happy Birthday! , so I guess it all works out...

All pickup trucks are commercial unless they have a bolt on camper or slide in turnbuckle type. So during the initial pickup purchase one doesn’t usually have it setup that way. But if you wanted to escape commercial one could only use a “bumper” pull hitch. Bolt on a camper shell and go back to DMV wait in line for an hour or so then they must come out and inspect your truck and issue a different license plate.

Glad I live in MT. No sales tax and a new truck like that (non commercial) would be about $217 for the first year registration and go down after that. I think a heavy commercial truck in the same weight range would be about the same $. My current truck has permanent tags which cost me under $100 as it is over 11 years old. No more registration fees for as long as I own it. We also don't have to deal with all the annual inspection stuff other states have to go through.

For some reason I thought this was regarding a motorhome. Pickup trucks seem to be specifically commercial vehicles in California.

When I bought my 2015 Chevy 2500HD in 2014 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado the first year my license tags were close to $1100.
My 5'ver, bought new in 2015...roughly the same price for tags in Colorado.
They basically dropped a little over $100 each year.
I lived in Adams County, Colorado.
Last June I registered my truck and 2015 5'ver in South Dakota...
Total for both (not counting the trip up there) was $256 plus $150 for the America's Mailbox address.

Are you sure those weights are correct? If this is a pick up you must register commercial unless you have a shell or TC permanently mounted. Without commercial you can be fined for carrying a broom or shovel in the open bed.
That is high, but if you are disabled and have a permanent disabled placard you can apply for disabled plates for this vehicle. It will drop the weight fee off the cost saving you over $200 on this truck. Other than that it's the cost we pay to play

This is California.... I have never seen it happen, but that is what I was told by DMV when I told them I did not want commercial plates on an 85' 1/2 ton pickup I was trying to bring out of non-op status.
