2014 24R water heater switch on convenience ctr

When I toggle the water heater switch to on position on the convenience ctr the light over it turns red for a second then goes off. When the water is heated the light does not turn back on. If I turn the water heater switch to off and then back on it does not light back up. Does anyone know exactly how this light is supposed to function? Thanks in advance.

It working just fine. The light tells you the gas heater is trying to ignite. Once it is lit and producing heat the light goes out. If it does not go out you have a problem...no gas...igniter failure...etc. the light only comes on when water temp goes below 110degrees. This is controlled by a thermostat device at the tank so it can be inhibited for quite awhile...until tank cools considerably. Sounds like you're in good shape!
