Back up camera

I have problems with my camera on and off, now it is off. Usually I can wiggle the wires or the outside camera and it will come back on but not this time. I have a cable in the cabinet that goes into 2 connections making a loop, I assume this is the camera cable? Any advice please?

If that's the cabinet over the side door...I think those cables are related to the TVs, antennas, etc.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think the rear camera cable is easily accessible. I had a problem with my camera and ended up swapping the camera out...wasn't as easy as one might have hoped! I ended up having to redo some of the wiring up on the back where the camera is mounted.

Good luck!

Dave, did you replace the monitor and the camera as well? It seems to be a bad connection. Does the wiring run under the roofing material, did you have to replace that too? Is there any trouble shooting tips you can give me? Thanks for any and all advice!

I only replaced the camera, not the monitor.

I only replaced a little wiring just where the camera is mounted and the wiring enters the roof in the back.

I don't know where the wiring goes from the top rear of the motorhome. RV construction techniques are geared toward allowing the manufacturer to build the thing as quickly and cheaply as possible. One thing that's often sacrificed is subsequent access for service - everything is stashed away behind walls and floors and ceilings, with no clear way to find anything unless you already know where to look.

I posted the 24R wiring diagrams a year or two ago. Here's a link to that thread:

I don't know if those will help at all - I took a quick look but didn't find any mention of the rear view camera / monitor - they may be there, but I didn't find them.

Dave

camera

Hi,

I had to replace my camera. Pretty complicated. My mechanic did it for $800 but the old camera seemed to have a better picture especially in the rain.

camera replacement

i have a 2011 solera 24s. my camera and my monitor went out at separate times. i replaced them both with units which i bought from rvcams.com. they were knowledgeable, and were great help with specific questions.

specific to the camera:
i was able to remove the camera, grommet and caulk from the rear. slow, steady pull revealed a plug. if memory serves, i was able to connect the camera without any rewiring. i tested the camera using my television. i confirmed that the setup worked by using a camcorder. when the camcorder showed a picture, and the rv cam didn't, i diagnosed bad camera. i replaced with the chnv model.

specific to the monitor:
i had to remove the headliner, trim over the door, and the trim at the rear edge of the driver's door. there is a plug there that connects the monitor to the in wall cable which runs to the rear camera. once again, i tested with a camcorder. i got picture from the camcorder on the television, but not on the monitor, so diagnosed bad monitor. if memory serves, i had to resolder wires and cable tie everything to prevent stressing connections. don't remember which model monitor, but i did have to modify the old mount to be able to put the new monitor on the solera mount glued to the windshield.

all is well now. three years and camera and monitor both still work, knock on wood.

it's been two years since i replaced the monitor, so i'm relying on my old and faulty memory, but i remember two plugs in the connections in the door post, one for video, one for power.
so, yes. the monitor is powered...
