condensation in skylight over dinette

2014 Solera

We have moisture accumulating on the inside of the skylight over the dinette. You can't get to it from the inside without removing the plexiglass cover. Anyone found some other way of removing the condensation. We tried opening windows and running fans with no success.
Thanks in advance for helping with this.

Sorry to say that unless you can completely seal the air lock inbetween the roof and the interior ceiling panel, after that air has been dried, you will not stop the condensation you expierence from continuing to form. It is a function of the amount of moisture contained in that trapped air, and the temperature variant on the inside and outside of the two layers.

If that's true, then I'd consider drilling 1-or-2 holes on the inside, as the seal has already been compromised anyway.

Thank you very much for your comments. We're going to take the inside cover off, dry the skylight out, replace cover and reseal inside and out and see what happens.

Skylight

The only one I ever replaced did not have a seal on the inside. The inside was cosmetic only and you unscrew it and drop it out takes about 5 minutes but this may be different than mine was

Bosco,
Thank you for your post. I think ours is in fact the same as yours. We will take the cover off as you suggested. Guess there is no way to keep condensation from reappearing.

Make sure you do not have a leak up on the roof !!!
When I used to work on manufactured home,,, what we usually found was a small roof leak !!!

X2. Over the course of owning three different trailers with skylights only had moisture in one once , and thats exactly what it was. The self leveling lap sealant around the skylight. All it takes is a small pinhole or tiny crack.

For some reason, probably movement in the thin plastic the top bubble is made of, that is usually the first area on a roof where the sealant needs some tlc.

You nailed it. One of the changes i made when I ordered my Forester 2401W was to omit the skylight - do not regret at all!

condensation

we have never had any condensation issue with the sun roof - even though the clear membrane at the bottom of the sun roof has two tears in it (i.e. the "seal" has been broken). The tears formed three years ago in a very cold winter, and I was worried about condensation at the time, but it never materialized.
So, a small leak in the roof makes a lot of sense to me.

That was a "0"option - you do not save any money. But I realized with my Solera I am either getting a lot of heat thru the Skylight (FL) or cold (up north) and though I never had any leak problem over 3 years I was always concerned about, especially hail damage .....

I brushed 5 coats of ultra white paint on both of our skylights +bath vent !!! keeps the heat out,,, and I am hoping will help the plastic last longer !!!
