Converter problem

Guess my converter is going out. We are camping with power. The light dim and then get bright. Check the battery charge state on panel and batteries are down to. 3 lights . Anyone know where converter is located? It will not let me edit title.

confused!

your title says inverter, then you start your post with converter, then you end with inverter.
your problem sounds like the converter. if that's what it is, should be behind the fuse/breaker panel.

these are two different things. which is it?

all RV's have converters, which converts the shore power to 12v DC and also recharges the RV battery.
inverters do the opposite and usually are optional or have to be installed separately. they invert 12v DC to 110v AC to power things like tv's, dvd's, charge cell phones and so on.

Converter

Sorry about that . It's converter I'm guessing giving problem. I looked behind the fuse panel. Mine is a 2011 and must be somewhere else. With lights fading and batteries not at full charge. I guess it has to be going out. Maybe it's getting hot and making it kick on and off. We are headed home in morning and I'll try to find it. Anyone know what size or brand I should replace it with?

If its a wfco then its most likely "in" the fuse panel.
Here's one removed.

Progressive dynamics makes a replacement drop in.
And that's what converter I'd recommend replacing it with.

Here.

2011 solera S...In the big storage area on passenger side ...remove the panel on the right side and the converter is above the water heater (at least my 2011 is). You will see a 110 volt wire going plugged into and outlet and on the rear are two wires that go to the DC circuit.

Per BClemens in a different thread, "under the bed ". He says mounted remotely from the fuse / breaker panel on Soleras. From other posters, believe, as stated above, can also be accessed through the basement compartment by removing panels. No personal experience - just repeating stuff I read on this forum.

X'S 2 on a progressive. The first WfCO that came with my unit failed from a bad fan, the replacement unit they put in the same convertor use to boil my batteries never drop to float at 13.2V always was charging at 13.6 (absorption mode). It still only had 1 fan and was noisy. When I replaced it with above unit it now drops to float or as progressive calls it storage. Came with a new board and unit with 2 fans. I had to take off the panel to see if the fans were running I couldn't hear anything. Also there is a charge wizard attached or integrated in the board for checking the operation or you can make it go into 14.4 volts at anytime you want. It only cost like $50.00 bucks more (amazon) then the WFCO that I replaced. The best part, it is a 4 stage charger not 3. It will also go into desolvation mode every 21 hrs when in float or storage for 15 mins to save on the build up. I'm glad I listened to Turbo and Barry. I'm very happy with this new convertor........

Ditto on my 2012, under the bed against the wall where the thermostat is located. I assume you can access it though the large cargo hold.

What ever brand that you find< I would still do a cross reference for replacement to a progressive, I doubt if they spent the few extra dollars to put something good in at the factory. You won't have to worry anymore one less headache. Good luck

Ok I found it next to water heater. It's a WFCO 55 amp model 9855. Got home kinda late. The engine had fully charged the batteries on the way home. So I turn on all he lights and battery voltage was at 12.34. Plugged camper to 110 plugin. Took awhile and I heard fan kick on. Checked voltage at battery and it was up to 13.4 but it only stay at this for a few seconds. Then the fan kicked off and voltage dropped back to 12.3. So I'm guess converter is just going bad. Any ideas to try before I order a new one?

Check the water level in the batteries.

Look like progressive only makes a 60 amp. Would this work?

Yes, that will work fine. Here's a link to the WFCO Troubleshooting Guide from the FRF Library.

I would think that it is the convertor, Look on amazon and get the progressive replacement. It will fit right in very easy to change. With the WFCO it should have stayed at 13.6 when you plugged in. I think it cost around $220.00 or so and the WFCO cost about $185.00. You could also get the 65 amp or 75 amp. Which ever one you think you want and need. Check the dimensions on the speck sheet, make sure they are the same size as the direct replacement for the 9855. If you boondock alot you might want the faster amp charger. Other then that get the direct replacement, it would be cheaper.

Only problem I see installing the progressive is space. May have to move it somewhere else. Not sure why they would install it there in the first place.

Turbo. I mean they did not make a 55 amp. That was why I figured I would go with the 60 amp.
